Questioner: Walter

I have heard in the corridors that the admission requirements for staying in Thailand for a longer period have been relaxed. Now I travel every year on a Non-Immigrant O visa and have to leave Thailand after 90 days. With a multiple entry visa of one year, I can renew after 90 days by traveling out and in. How often is that possible?

What are the exact requirements for a stay of, for example, 10 months to a year? I am 56 years old and have a WAO benefit. I haven't come across anything about this online (yet).

Let's hope that me and many others with me can travel normally again in January 2022 due to the covid

A Non-immigrant O Multiple entry visa is valid for one year. Upon arrival you will receive a residence period of 90 days. If you have a multiple entry visa you could leave and re-enter Thailand. Then you do not extend the previous period, because it expires the moment you leave Thailand, but you obtain a new stay period of 90 days. You can do this as often as you like, as long as it is within the validity period of your visa. With each new entry you will again receive 90 days of residence.

This in normal situation.

But as you know, we are currently living under Corona measures and every time you want to re-enter Thailand, you will also have to meet all requirements such as CoE, quarantine, etc ... again. The fact that you have a multiple entry visa does not make any difference.

Just crossing the border, which is also called a “border run” and returning to get another 90 days is not possible at the moment.

What you could do is to extend your stay in Thailand. This is possible on the basis of, among other things, “Retired”. The most important are the financial requirements:

– Bank amount of at least 800 000 Baht

of

– Income of at least 65 000 Baht

of

– Bank amount and income together must be at least 800 000 Baht on an annual basis.

What you could also do, provided you meet the conditions, is to apply for a Non-immigrant OA visa. This will give you a residence period of 1 year upon arrival instead of 90 days.

As far as I know, the requirements for long-term residence in Thailand have not been relaxed. They are in themselves the same as before the Corona times. On the contrary, I would say, if you include the Corona requirements.

Here are the requirements for a Non-immigrant O and OA. They can be found online at the Thai Embassy website:

Non-immigrant Visa OA (long stay) – สถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงเฮก (thaiembassy.org)
