Questioner: Jack

I am in Thailand on a non-immigrant O visa for 90 days. My visa will soon expire and shortly before that time I have booked a flight back to the Netherlands. If I have the great bad luck that I test positive for Corona just before the flight, I will have to go into quarantine, but my visa will expire during that time!

I can then no longer arrange anything for extending the visa! Could my wife do that? She is Thai and we got married in the Netherlands, which she could prove with a certified extract from the population register (BuZa and Thai embassy in the Netherlands). And where could she turn to to arrange this? (We are staying in Bangkok).

I hope it won't be necessary, but imagine..... Thank you very much for your answer.

Yes, that's possible.

She must of course have your passport and a statement from the doctor or hospital that you are in quarantine and are not allowed to move. With that she goes to immigration in Bangkok.

You can obtain an extension for medical reasons up to a maximum of 90 days per application.

Hopefully you won't need it, but you don't have to worry about your stay period expiring if you're quarantined.
