Questioner: Harry

As a 66-year-old, I would like to go to Thailand for three months, where I have a girlfriend with a home and a business. I myself will retire at the end of May.

Which visa application method is best for me and which conditions do I have to meet? Is it possible with several times across the border or a real visa, for example a non-O visa?

I would like to book a ticket in the short term because I want to fly in June.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Three months is vague as a period. If you talk about residence period(s), it is best to do so in days and not in months. That your girlfriend has a house and her own business is nice for her, but irrelevant for your visa application.

As a reference, we will assume 90 days in this case. It seems best to me to purchase a Non-immigrant O Single entry visa.

This can be done in the Thai embassy in The Hague, but also in the Consulate in Amsterdam or, if it is more practical for you, in the consulate in Essen (Germany). With that Non-immigrant O visa you will then obtain a residence period of 90 days. If that's enough, you don't have to do anything else.

If your stay is longer than 90 days, you can do a “border run” afterwards. You will then receive a stay of 30 days on the basis of “Visa Exemption” (visa exemption). Together that should be enough to bridge "three" months in Thailand.

It now depends on how often and how long you will go to Thailand or want to stay there in the future. If you go several times a year, a Non-immigrant O Multiple entry (only available at the Embassy in The Hague) is probably more suitable or even year extensions should be considered.

You can read what you need when applying on the website of the embassy/consulate. See link below:
