Questioner: Wim

I have now entered Thailand on a single entry tourist visa and am in quarantine. Now I can have this visa converted into a Non immigrant O visa in Thailand. I am 50 plus but not retired and receive social assistance benefits of approximately € 1000 per month.

When applying for the CoE in the Netherlands, I am asked for pension certificates that I cannot show because I have not yet retired, but I have a balance of more than 800.000 THB on my Bangkok Bank account.

Would it be possible for me to obtain the CoE by uploading my 3 last payment specifications and also my last 3 daily statements of my deposits, payment € 1000 and with my daily statement with balance over 800.000 THB Bangkok bank?

If so, I can obtain my Non immigrant O here and do not have to apply for a single entry at the Thai embassy in The Hague for the first 15 months.

I look forward to your responses.

As I told you a few days ago, in normal circumstances you can convert your Tourist status to a Non-immigrant without much problem. In Thailand you will not be asked to prove that you are retired or not. At least 50 years are sufficient and the bank amount of, among other things, 800 Baht that you already have is sufficient as financial proof, although proof of conversion can be requested that this money comes from abroad.

If allowed, you will first be granted a 90-day residence period. You will have to extend those 90 days in Thailand by a year if you want to do something with it. So make sure you are still in Thailand then. And if you leave Thailand, you will first have to re-entry or you will lose that period of residence.

Under normal circumstances, such a conversion is not a problem. I don't know whether that is the case. There may also be additional requirements for the conversion. You just have to inquire.

Before your next entry, you will then, as it is now, also first have to apply for a CoE. This is possible on the basis of your re-entry if you had one, although you will now also have to provide proof of insurance 40 000/400 000 Baht out/in patient, on top of that 100 000 Dollar COVID-19 insurance.

Whether you also have to provide additional pension certificates to obtain your CoE, even if you return with a Re-entry, I do not know.

Readers who have recently returned with a re-entry (as Retired) and already had experience with this may be able to tell you.

Wim, someone on social assistance benefits is of particular interest to Big Bro. You remember the case of that lady who got groceries from her mother.

I assume that you have discussed everything well with the benefits agency, such as the maximum holiday period.

And furthermore, with 800.000 thb in the bank in Thailand, are you not above the asset limit for assistance? Or is it possible to receive a benefit without an asset test?

Caution is the mother of the china shop, Wim!

Capital limit is Euro 6295 for this year, you can go on holiday abroad for a maximum of 28 days and if he receives social assistance benefits, he will undoubtedly also receive rent allowance for his social rental home, otherwise you will be a resident and you will not receive Euro 1000. His social assistance benefit is paid for by the collection of taxes etc. by workers and retirees. Well, in view of the latter, I wonder if anyone would allow someone with social assistance benefits and housing benefit and perhaps health care benefit to stay in Thailand and then also illegally sublet his social rental home, because what else do you live on than the 1000 Euro assistance .. Let him find a job such as teaching and use the ability to live on and if it doesn't work, you can return to the Netherlands.

    Dear Wim,

Entitlement to holiday with a social assistance benefit is 4 weeks per year. Pass the period in advance and report that you are back when you return.
Nice plan about € 1000 monthly and living in Thailand but it will be seen as fraud by the paying agency. You don't want to bring that on yourself, I presume?
In addition, you probably also do not meet the best efforts obligation to obtain work and income yourself again. I myself am 58 years old and work hard to be able to stop in 20 years. Just like you, sitting comfortably in Thailand at the expense of the taxpayer (including me) is nice for you, but not for all those people who pay for you.

type error in 20 years must be in 10 years

    Strange question though.
You are currently in Thailand and you are requesting information to obtain a COE Certificate Of Entry.
Are you asking for something you already have?
    Something isn't right here.

If I have my tourist visa converted to Immigrant O visa here, my question was whether I have to submit / or upload proof of retirement for the CoE in the Netherlands after my re-entry because I am 50 plus but not retired hence my question .

If you apply for a non-immigrant visa in Thailand and you are back in the Netherlands and want to return to Thailand, you will not receive a CoE because you must provide proof of pension, which you do not have. You can then only apply for a tourist visa again.

That is a clear answer to my question and thank you

Dear Wim, I am Belgian and I don't know if it is the same in the Netherlands as in Belgium. If I am not mistaken, is a non immigrant O Single Entry Visa, still available with proof of sufficient income, from the age of 50? Now if you contact the Thai Embassy in the Netherlands and ask whether proof of income is accepted, in your case instead of your annual pension statement, proof of sufficient income through social assistance benefits.? I suppose you get an annual income fische from that as well. He who does not try can not Win.!!

          Dear Winlouis,

That is certainly worth checking with the athai embassy.
Thanks for your tip and explanation
