Do you have questions about your travel– or cancellation insurance with the Europeesche, following the floods in Thailand? Below, this travel insurer has listed the most common questions and corresponding answers.

Cancellation

My flight has been canceled by my travel organization or airline. Is this covered by my cancellation insurance?
De Europeesche advises you to contact the airline or travel organization where the trip was booked. The cancellation insurance does not cover this.

I want to cancel or cut short my holiday in Thailand. Can I claim the costs I incur for this on my cancellation insurance?
Cancellations and interruptions due to fear and the like are not insured. These costs can therefore not be claimed on the cancellation insurance. Have you taken out the 'Composite Trip' cover on your cancellation insurance and are one or more of the components canceled due to the flood? Then the cancellation costs of the other parts will be reimbursed.

Travel Insurance

I have to stay longer than planned due to the flood. Will my travel insurance remain valid?
Yes, your travel insurance will remain in effect during that period.

I lost/damaged my belongings due to the flood. Will my travel insurance cover these costs?
You will be reimbursed for damaged and lost luggage, including clothes and travel documents. The maximum reimbursement depends on the chosen coverage.

I have to incur extra costs because of the flood. Can I claim these costs on my travel insurance?
You will be reimbursed for additional accommodation costs if you return home later than planned. You will also be reimbursed for additional telephone costs. The maximum amount depends on your chosen coverage. Before you incur additional costs, please contact the Europeesche Helpline +31 20 651 57 77. Telephone costs for contacting the Europeesche Helpline are reimbursed without limitation.

I can no longer enter my house/apartment/hotels by the flood. Will I be reimbursed for an alternative stay through my travel insurance?
As an exception to the conditions, you will also receive a reimbursement for extra accommodation costs if you can no longer stay in your house, apartment or hotel, up to a maximum of €500. You must be able to demonstrate that these costs were necessary and extra.

We have booked with Air Berlin and will leave next Tuesday, November 1. We booked the first 2 nights in Bangkok, after that we would see where we go. Is it still wise to go? And is it still possible to book a domestic flight to Chiang Mai from Suvarnabhumi airport.

      I'm wondering the same thing..
I leave for BKK on November 22 and hope that by then the water will be back where it should be..

Would book a flight to Chiang Mai via the Air Asia website! Mon from Amsterdam with Emirates to Bangkok and Tues 1-11 we fly from SUV to Chiang Mai in the evening! Today everything is still running on schedule ((according to the site))

I don't know if it's wise, but many hotels are full of evacuees..especially in Bkk.

Flights to Chiang mai went through Don Mueang airport but that is closed. It seems to me that those national flights now go from Suvarnabhumi but I don't know.

There is also a drinking water problem in Bkk.

    • @ Only the cheap drinking water is scarce, I understood from a reader from Bangkok. Expensive brands are still available.

off topic: (cheap or expensive) bottled drinking water is nowhere to be found in Bkk. Really nowhere!

I was just fed up with FOODLAND water, but only IMPORT WATER from France, etc. Thai water not a drop, flying traders are now on their way here and sell Singha water 1.5 liters for 40 THB, good profit margin

Cheap drinking water has turned into expensive drinking water.
The prices of cheap drinking water have almost doubled

we bought a filter system. going very well. cost 1400 baht

          • Henk says up

That's right, Nicole. We have used a filter system for years, but we depend on the water that is supplied by truck. And since the Thai people think that their skin color also becomes lighter when they add chlorine to the water, they do so neatly on the water purification .
However, our filter does not get rid of that chlorine taste, so we have to rely on barrels (which also have a strange aftertaste) or bottles of water

            • Nicole says up

I find this strange. We already had a water filter in Europe for both the lime and the chlorine taste and we never had a problem with that. We also have chlorinated water here, but with the filter no taste to be seen.

Next Friday we will go to Thailand and land in Bangkok… According to reports, the water level will drop after the weekend, but we have no idea what to expect. The water leaves behind a lot of mess and misery, such as a shortage of food and drinking water. Both for the tourist and the people there of course. For the time being, we are going on Friday, because our travel agency NRV does not seem to be open to refunding in the event of cancellation, at least they are very unclear about that. Actually, there is no insurance that covers a local flood disaster, they say. Does anyone know more about this ?

Just go! Really great here. Eat enough. And the people are well prepared!
