Who in the world famous Angkor Wat Cambodia wants to visit, must pay 1% more for an admission ticket as of February 85. A day ticket now costs $37 (was $20).

A three-day pass to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed temple now costs $62 (was $40) and a week-pass costs $72.

The Cambodian government announced last year that it would raise prices for tourist attractions in the country. Similarly, entrance fees to other tourist sites, including the Royal Palace, National Museum and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, have also risen sharply.

Cambodia's tourism revenues fell last year, to about US$3 billion. This despite an increase in the number of international visitors.

More than two million tourists visit the temples of Angkor every year.

probably too expensive for many tourists or tourists who have visited the country more than once and who no longer want to visit the attractions.
Then apply the Thai trick, it turns out, less income, save prices, only they don't understand that too expensive is too expensive. Making a tourist pay an amount for a week pass equal to the wages or more of a Cambodian isn't that smart after all.
Or do they also think YOU barang YOU big money there???

I agree with them. The country is poverty-stricken and – if I can believe the reactions of Thailandblog readers – more and more people are moving there who find Thailand too expensive, so that is of no use to them either.
The 'quality tourist' who treats himself to a trip to SE Asia will not blink an eye at the price increase of 15 euros.
Whether it works depends on the price elasticity of demand. For that we will have to wait for the visitor numbers of the coming year.

Unfortunately, the money does NOT go to the ordinary people, but to the already very rich upper class of Cambodia! When you see the accommodations and conditions of the people living in and around Siem Reap, you wonder where all that money goes.

Despite the fact that it is now 62USD (about 2000THB) for a three-day pass, and a three-day visit is actually enough, I think a visit to Angkor Wat is worth this price.
Comparing the price with the wages of a Cambodian is pointless. Compare it with the price you pay for a day visit to Keukenhof. Yes, going on vacation and visiting something unique costs money, that has always been the case. Maintaining and restoring the complex is also not free.

For the people who don't feel like spending a fotn on something like that, lopburi temple, an hour above bangkok, looks just like this. is much smaller, but does have monkeys. all in all a nicer experience, because a whole day is going to get boring, let alone three days

    But "quick japie" anyway,
You can't compare this 7th wonder of the world with such a monkey temple!!
If you ever visit the 40 km2 Angkor Wat complex again, you will be amazed at what was achieved there 1000 years ago! Without compromising Lopburi's templed; to experience this is indescribable. Smash some Euri and spoil yourself with a trip to Angkor Wat!!
