Visa Vietnam
Dutch nationals traveling to Vietnam must register in advance Vietnam visa can be arranged in 3 ways:
- E-Visa: You can apply for this directly via the official website of the Vietnamese Immigration Service (www.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/) $25 for 30 days Single Entry and access to all international airports, and select country borders and ports.
- VOA (Visa On Arrival): You request a letter of approval from one of the many visa bureaus ($12 – $20). With this letter you can obtain a visa on arrival upon arrival at one of the five selected airports in Vietnam (including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City). You have the option of Single Entry or Multiple Entry and 1 month or 3 months. On arrival you pay for SIngle Entry $25 and for Multiple Entry $30 regardless of whether the visa is for 1 month or 3 months
- Embassy: You can arrange a visa for Vietnam at any Vietnamese embassy, so both in The Hague and the Embassy of Vietnam in Bangkok.

- Ho Chi Minh City (VietJet Air, Nok Air, Vietnam Airlines, Bangkok Airways, AirAsia, Thai Airways – 1,5 hours)
- Da Nang (AirAsia, Thai VietJet Air, Bangkok Airways, Vietnam Airlines and Thai Airways – 1,5 hours)
- Chiang Mai has direct flights to:
- Hanoi (AirAsia, Bangkok Airways – 1,5 hours);
- Ho Chi Minh City (VietJet Air – 2 hours)
- Phuket has direct flights to:
- Ho Chi Minh City (VietJet Air – 2 hours)
From other cities in Thailand, the fastest and cheapest way to fly to Vietnam is via Bangkok.

- From Hanoi can you sapa, Halong Bay and visit Ninh Binh.
- From Ho Chi Minh City you can go to Dalat and the Mekong Delta.
- From Da Nang you can go to Hoi An and Hue.
Sightseeing in Vietnam
There are plenty sights in Vietnam to travel there for a few months. Some of the best places are:
- Ha Giang: Most beautiful province in Vietnam and one of the most beautiful mountain areas in Southeast Asia, with very little tourism
- Hoi An: Touristy, but well worth a visit. A well-preserved old trading town with a cozy atmosphere.
- Halong Bay: Enjoy a cruise through the most beautiful bay in the world. Less touristy are Lan Ha Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay.
- Sapa: Most popular place for walking through the rice fields.
- Phong Nha: The largest cave in the world and a number of other huge caves that you can even camp in.
- Mai Chau: Rural valley where you can cycle and hike. Day trip to Pu Luong is definitely a highlight.
Best time to travel
Like Thailand, you have a dry season and a rainy season. Because Vietnam is a long stretched out country, the best time to travel depends on which region you are visiting.
- North Vietnam has a distinct winter and summer season. The cool but mostly dry winter lasts from November to April, with temperatures averaging 17-22°C with the coldest months being January – March.
- Central Vietnam has hot and dry weather from mid-January to late August, with temperatures often reaching the mid-30s.
- South Vietnam has constant temperatures all year round (around 30 degrees), with the dry season from November to April.
Tips for traveling in Vietnam
- Vietnam has a very extensive bus network. Because it is a vast country, the distances between destinations can be very long. Use night buses to save you a day's travel and costs for a night in a hotel.
- A safer and more comfortable alternative are trains.
- Flying is very cheap in Vietnam. You can get a one-way ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi for as little as $40 and from HCMC to Dalat for less than $20.

From Hanoi. Halong Bai. You can also spend the night on 1 or 2 of the islands or on a houseboat. Recommended.
Haiphong and then on to Do Son and certainly the temple island off the coast. the island of Hon Dau.
Ho Chi Minh. Visit Vung Tau seaside is also beautiful and beautiful beach.

The visa information is incorrect. Only e-visas via the official website up to 3 months single/multi entry. The methods for obtaining a visa mentioned under 2 and 3 are not available.
I had arranged an e-visa in the Netherlands but was still refused by Airasia... Reason given by them. It had my last name on it and my first baptismal name
