The cabinet today approved plans to postpone the Songkran New Year holiday next month and close schools to limit the spread of the coronavirus, a government spokeswoman said.
The mayor of Pattaya, Sonthaya Kunplome, says that all events such as concerts have been canceled due to the corona virus. Throwing water for a week is likely to continue because, according to him, a general ban would be “impracticable”.
Possibly no Songkran this year due to coronavirus
The Thai New Year's Eve (Songkran) in the week of April 13 may be canceled due to the corona virus. The provinces of Khon Kaen, Phetchabun and Buriram have already canceled Songkran. Bangkok and other provinces are expected to follow suit.
I read on Thailand blog and in Bangkok Post that Thailand is experiencing the worst drought in years. Isn't it time to ban water throwing during Songkran? It is of course strange that you are going to waste so much water while the farmers are desperate for water. In just under 3 months it will be that time again. Why are there no questions asked about this in the Thai parliament like we do in the House of Representatives? Does the parliament in Thailand work well?

The Thai New Year celebration, Maha Songkran
