Phayao is a province in the north of Thailand, which is, as it were, sandwiched by the Thai provinces of Nan, Phrae, Lampang, Chiang Rai and a small part in the northeast by the Laotian province of Xaignabouli. It is the 55th largest province in Thailand in terms of area with a population of just under 500.000.
