The Thai, a thrifty people
Of course, many Thai borrow more than is wise. Often for a (too) expensive car, but even more often out of necessity, for example for the children's studies, for the purchase of fertilizer, for the start of a small business or for unexpected expenses.
For a Thai everything is "paeng"
We Dutch have a reputation, just ask a Belgian, to be frugal, even stingy. We do not like to spend money and if we have to, preferably as little as possible.
Living like a currant in Thailand
Frugal living is also a necessity for a number of foreigners, including the Dutch, who have settled in Thailand. The first thought that comes to mind is whether those people were aware of the possibilities and costs in Thailand beforehand.
