Continuous rains have caused flooding and landslides in the North. The Central Plains is expected to experience flooding today. Three districts on the western side of Ayutthaya province are expected to be flooded around noon.
Dengue fever solution in sight
The pharmaceutical company Sanofi hopes to report positive results in September 2012 of an important study among children in Thailand in the fight against (dengue) dengue fever, a painful disease that is spreading rapidly worldwide and claims victims especially among children.
Dengue vaccine available in 2015
The French company Sanofi Pasteur is achieving good results in Thailand with the development of a vaccine against Dangue (dengue fever). A vaccine is likely to become available in 2015.
Dengue is a virus infection that is transmitted by a mosquito. There are two variants, one of which is serious to fatal. Dengue fever is a flu-like illness. These include symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pains, and red skin rashes.
Dengue fever rise in Thailand expected
The number of cases of dengue (dengue fever) in Thailand is rising alarmingly and the medical sector is therefore raising the alarm. In 2008, nearly 90.000 people were infected, of which 102 died. A year later, those numbers fell to 57.000 cases with 50 deaths, but in 2010 there were more than 113.000 with 139 deaths. Doctors say they expect a significant rise in this very serious disease this year with summer just around the corner. It …
