My question is about the new tax measures for Thai residents from January 1, 2024. As previously mentioned on Thailandblog, an adjusted tax regime will apply for the above group from January 1, 2024.
Thailand – Belgium question: Do I have to pay more tax if I deregister from Belgium?
I have been married to a Thai woman for several years and am now 65 years old, so I am retired. We are planning to move to Thailand, so I would deregister from Belgium, but register at the Belgian embassy in Bangkok.
Thailand tax question: Does a Thai widow owe tax on her widow's pension when she leaves for Thailand?
Last year a good friend of mine passed away. He lived in the Netherlands from 2003 with a Thai woman. The widow receives a widow's pension after his death. She intends to return to Thailand permanently. She has a Dutch ID card “unrestricted stay”. She does not have a Dutch passport.
The latest news about Thai taxes
The Thai Ministry of Finance has published a notice stating that after January 1, 1, income from previous years brought into Thailand will NOT fall under the 'new' interpretation of Thai tax law.
Unfortunately, I am no longer working due to health reasons and therefore also receive disability benefits. Do you know what the consequences are or could be if I move to Thailand?
Thailand tax question: New tax treaty and exemption until June 2027 under the old treaty, what should I do?
As a retiree living in Thailand and deregistered in the Netherlands, I also have to deal with the new tax treaty. I still have an exemption until June 2027 under the old treaty. Earlier this year I called my pension funds and the Foreign Tax Authorities about it. The pension funds were aware of the changed situation and had already received notice from the tax authorities that I will be liable to pay taxes on my pensions again as of January 1, 1. (€2024 p/m). They will also apply that.
I know from previous postings that the Tax Treaty between the Netherlands and Thailand will “almost certainly” expire as of January 1, 1. From that date onwards, my exemptions for paying IB in Thailand will lapse in that case and I will now have to pay my IB in the Netherlands.
Thailand – Belgium question: the tax inspector sent me a payment for 2020 which is much too high
I am Belgian. Live in Thailand. Have a pension from Belgium. To apply for my annual visa at the immigration service, I submit an affidavit that the embassy checks and validates my pension and thus I receive my extension. I pay my tax in Belgium as a non-Belgian.
“Political elite hints at exorbitant flight prices: who is still allowed to take to the air?”
Flying, once a luxury that became accessible to many, is now in danger of becoming a privilege of the wealthy. Political proposals suggest drastic increases in the flight tax, with the risk that the average citizen will be left behind. Will flying soon be a distant dream again for most of us?
Thailand will begin automatic financial information exchange with other countries this year
Thailand is going to take a big step in international cooperation on taxes. From this year, financial institutions such as banks and insurers will pass on their customers' financial data to the Thai tax authorities, which will then share it internationally. What exactly does this mean, and what does it mean for ordinary citizens and companies?
At Thailandblog we are committed to providing accurate and reliable information to our readers. The diversity and complexity of tax issues, especially with regard to expats and Dutch people in Thailand, has made us realize that the expertise of a specialized professional is indispensable.

I hereby report that the 2022 income declaration is online at www.myminfin.be. This for the income year 2022, tax year 2023. This for Belgian taxpayers not living in Belgium.
Should a retired Belgian apply for a TIN number?
I am 79 years old and am staying in Thailand with a Non Immigrant O visa. In addition, I have 800.000 Baht blocked for a whole year at the Siam Commercial Bank. My only source of income is a Belgian pension. I regularly transfer amounts to Thailand to provide for myself and my Thai-Belgian wife.
Thai government tackles tax loopholes: strict tax rules for foreigners from 1-1-2024
In an ambitious effort to tackle income inequality and increase national revenues, the Thai government has announced plans to revise current tax rules for foreign income. From 2024 onwards, stricter rules will apply, meaning that even residents who have lived in the country for a short period will not escape the new measures.
Moved to Thailand and tax refund 2022?
At the end of October 2022 I moved permanently to Thailand with my wife and son. In April 2023 I submitted my provisional tax return for 2022. This application could not be processed.
In the autumn of last year, as a “non-resident”, I completed my tax return online. All this was duly accepted and a confirmation was sent to me by e-mail.
I am Belgian and deregistered in Belgium and have been for a number of years. Now I have received a message from KBC where my pension is being paid with the request to forward a TIN number to them for tax purposes.
