Last year a good friend of mine passed away. He lived in the Netherlands from 2003 with a Thai woman. The widow receives a widow's pension after his death. She intends to return to Thailand permanently. She has a Dutch ID card “unrestricted stay”. She does not have a Dutch passport.

As a retiree living in Thailand and deregistered in the Netherlands, I also have to deal with the new tax treaty. I still have an exemption until June 2027 under the old treaty. Earlier this year I called my pension funds and the Foreign Tax Authorities about it. The pension funds were aware of the changed situation and had already received notice from the tax authorities that I will be liable to pay taxes on my pensions again as of January 1, 1. (€2024 p/m). They will also apply that.

I know from previous postings that the Tax Treaty between the Netherlands and Thailand will “almost certainly” expire as of January 1, 1. From that date onwards, my exemptions for paying IB in Thailand will lapse in that case and I will now have to pay my IB in the Netherlands.

I am Belgian. Live in Thailand. Have a pension from Belgium. To apply for my annual visa at the immigration service, I submit an affidavit that the embassy checks and validates my pension and thus I receive my extension. I pay my tax in Belgium as a non-Belgian.

I am 79 years old and am staying in Thailand with a Non Immigrant O visa. In addition, I have 800.000 Baht blocked for a whole year at the Siam Commercial Bank. My only source of income is a Belgian pension. I regularly transfer amounts to Thailand to provide for myself and my Thai-Belgian wife.

At the end of October 2022 I moved permanently to Thailand with my wife and son. In April 2023 I submitted my provisional tax return for 2022. This application could not be processed.
