Chiang Mai, 700 kilometers from Bangkok, is the main city in the north. It is also the capital of the mountainous province of the same name.

Rose of the North

many ภาษาไทย love Chiang Mai (the Rose of the North) for its quirky festivals, 14th-century temples, stunning landscapes, quirky food and pleasantly cool climate in the winter.

The Culture

The inhabitants of Chiang Mai province have a culture that differs in many ways from that of the rest of the country. They are mostly farmers and craftsmen with their own dialect, their own customs, their own festivals, their own architectural traditions, their own indigenous works of art, their own dances and a separate kitchen. The hill tribes contribute to the special and colorful character of Chiang Mai and its surroundings.

Chiang Mai center

Chiang Mai city center alone has more than 100 temples, with another 200 in close proximity. Dating back to 1345, Wat Phra Singh (Lion God Temple) on Sam Lan Road is one of the important sites of the Songkran festival when Phra Buddha Singh is washed as the holiest Buddha in the north.

Chiang Mai is Thailand's premier center for quality handicrafts. The visitor only needs to visit the famous Night Bazar to make his move. A big advantage of shopping in Chiang Mai is that you can see the artisans at work in the city and surrounding villages, especially on Bo Sang-San-Kamphaeng Road.

Unfortunately, there is in fact hardly anything to see from Chiang Mai - you can still use the same video for a number of other places. As a promotional video, this doesn't seem very successful to me.

We also always go to Chiang Mai and buy beautiful stuff for our webshop in the Netherlands every time. We'll be back in December. This way we can introduce the Dutch to Thai craftsmanship.

    Greetings Sa
