For those who are not familiar with the term, trail running means 'off-road running': through nature, over narrow paths (Trails) and conquering natural obstacles such as hills/mountains, rocks and streams.

More and more runners are looking for these challenges. Looking for more experience instead of massive events on asphalt and a continuous focus on faster times. Close to nature, to experience the tranquility and enjoy the surroundings.

Every runner sometimes runs off-road or consciously builds this type of running into his training program. The advantage is that you run less on speed, but more on feeling. This playful character makes walking less stressful. Every step you take is different due to the changing surface, so a good concentration is important. By running Trails you build more strength in your legs and you get stronger ankles. It is also a workout for your upper body because you have to 'balance' continuously. The softer and varied surface reduces the impact on your joints, making it easier to run longer distances.

In the Benelux – following in the footsteps of other European countries – there is also a lot of trail running. Consider, for example, suitable locations such as Limburg with spicy hills, in Gelderland the vast Veluwe and on the coast you have challenging dune strips. Several websites give good information about this information.

Also in Thailand trail running is becoming increasingly popular among runners and events in this field are regularly organized. The next event will take place on Sunday, January 22, starting at 6.00:XNUMX am in the beautiful surroundings of Kao Mai Kew just outside Pattaya. It is the second edition of the Thailand Trail Running Championship.

The champion ship is fought in a 21.5 kilometer “off-road” half marathon. If you're not a regular trail runner, don't worry, there's also a “only” 10km race and even a 3km race for kids and beginners. The route runs through a beautiful hilly area, farmland and forests.

There are several age categories for both men and women, except in the 3 kilometer race/walk where age is not important. On site there is a small "village", where food and drinks are available, of course, but also material, such as clothing and shoes for trail running. There is a play corner for children. After the race, the award ceremony will take place during a pleasant lunch.

If you don't live near Pattaya and don't want, dare or are not allowed to go there (by your partner), check www.ama-events.com for events elsewhere in Thailand, for example Bangkok, Kanchanaburi or Koh Samui.

Gringo, nice article. never knew although I know the man on the brochure from the running circuit.
For people who want to walk less and still want to be busy, I recommend going to the Hash House Harriers. These have a weekly running course and a walking course (tracking while walking for the right way) in Cha-am, HuaHin, ChiangMai, Pattaya, Phupet and Korat, among others. I myself sometimes come to a run in Cha-am – HuaHin. see for example the site of Cha-am Hash House Harriers.
I have heard it said that these are runners with a drinking problem, but it is a must to do. Please look at the photos on the site
