Lex in Pattaya – 2018 (4)

This year I'm ironing for the 4 againe down in pattaya. More than 10 times I have already been to Thailand, but now for the 4e once a week alone in Pattaya. Not completely alone, because fortunately I know enough people here to fill the week. Since I'm only going for a week, I'm even more picky about how I spend my time. And because I consider myself a real gourmet - others call me a fussy eater - I want to enjoy all the goodies that Pattaya has to offer every day. Think of it as tips, where I want to emphasize that there are still plenty of dining options that I have not (yet) tried. And of course I will make a short report of the trip, with tips that readers may find useful.

Day 5

The fifth day mainly took it easy. Out of bed late, had breakfast in the hotel, not worth mentioning and spent most of the afternoon on the beach. First a nice foot massage (300 Baht), then a pedicure (200 Baht) and then have the feet completely cleaned (300 Baht). They are completely smooth again.

At the end of the afternoon, we decided to go for a long walk. By big circle I mean walk down Beach Road to Walking Street, then left and then left again onto Second Road. Which then run all the way down to Central Road and then back via Central Road to Beach Road. A round of about 45 – 60 minutes, depending on the speed of walking and any delay.

Ankara Pumpui Kebab

While walking the big circle I ran into an old acquaintance. Almost forgot that this tent was still there. Often stopped for a nice kebab sandwich on my previous holidays. The tastiest Kebab in town. Much nicer than the mobile tents on the street. My favorite is the mixed kebab, a mix of (I assume) beef and chicken, but it could also be lamb and chicken, or perhaps lamb and beef. Anyway, tastes great! The owner had already lost a lot of weight last year, so I saw his son yesterday. Perhaps time for a name change, because they are not that Pumpui anymore…

Kebab

Tip! The tastiest kebab in Pattaya

For the best kebabs, head to Ankara Pumpui Kebab, located almost immediately to the left of the entrance to Walking Street, on the road connecting Beach Road to Second Road, on the Walking Street side.

Not recommended

Despite the careful consideration I make whether or not to eat somewhere, I sometimes allow myself to be tempted to make a bad purchase. Also when my friend suggested that we have dinner at a kind of food market between Soi 6 and Pattaya Central Road (Pattaya Klang). I can indeed remember that a few years ago there was a much more varied offer and the quality was also better. Now it's a drama, a real waste of time and money. We were almost pulled in, and once at the table there were 6 people around us for ordering. It turns out that the table is in a kind of courtyard where each tent, with a separate owner, can serve customers. So for each tent there is a representative who will persuade you to order something from that tent. So a drama, and when you have finally been able to make your choice from 5 different menus, you will also receive your food at different times. You also have to pay right away, so someone will come and pay you several times during the meal. Drinks separately, fries separately, fish separately and spare ribs separately. Those spare ribs were so terribly bad, an absolute must. The price was also disappointing, we lost almost 1000 Baht for 3 dishes and 3 drinks. Of course still cheap, but for comparison, for the same amount we ate a nice steak at Klein Vlaanderen the day before.

If you like the cheaper Thai menus, try Night Market Bua Khao Market. There is a food court where you can put together your menu per stall. 40-150 baht per dish. We have eaten there almost daily for 300-400 Baht in total for 2 people in recent weeks.
Order yourself at the stall, and they will deliver it to you per stall. With one you pay when ordering, and the other when serving. Besides the delicious food, also very nice to people watch, especially the Thai themselves and Thai with farang company.

Thanks for the tip. In March I expect to go again for a week. Then I will definitely try this one out.

I have indeed also eaten there between soi 6 and Pattaya klang. Very bad indeed. So left it at that one time. Personally, I think the food at the food stalls next to the parking lot of the Alcazar is the best. It may not look appealing to eat next to parked buses, but it tastes excellent.

And for the best spare ribs, the Kiss food has to be Lex N. opposite Mikeshopping hall at the back, that is 55555.aroy mak mak.

Dear Jim. I went to Smokin' Joe's but spare ribs at Surprise BBQ (side street Spi buakhaow) suited me better. I've also been to Klein Vlaanderen (side street Soi buakhaow near the hospital) but I don't think I saw any spare ribs on the menu there. Had a nice steak. Part of this will follow. I'll take lk empress with me for the next trip.

no, because of Klein Vlaanderen, which is called Nieuw Vlaanderen, Klein Vlaanderen has stopped, I thought 2 years ago.

Yes, that's right, Klein Vlaanderen was on Second Road, where that vegetarian Indian tent with that blow-up doll is now. I have been to New Flanders, Soi Buakhaow, street opposite Hospital. Nice tent, good food. Belongs to the brother of the former owner of Klein Vlaanderen. However, I don't think spare ribs have been seen on the menu… Potatoes and steak were very tasty. Was also quite busy the night I was there.

For your information. New Flanders was previously the Mai Lu Si bar. The Belgian owner, Charlie, passed away last year.
