Dear readers,

Soon I'm going to Thailand for six weeks, traveling around on my own. I would like to celebrate New Year's Eve with other tourists/backpackers. Where is the best place to do that? Are there also celebrations on the Islands with fireworks and such, or do I have to go to Bangkok?

I can now adjust my program to it so I'd like to hear it.

Greetings,

elize

Hi Elize, welcome to Thailand, I am there every year on New Year's Eve, is this your first time in Thailand?
There are few fireworks on the islands, but the most fireworks in Bangkok,
I myself am always with friends in jomtien,
Close to pattaya, fireworks are also set off there, but a bit more on pattaya,
What you see a lot on New Year's Eve are the lucky balloons that go into the air, that's something they do more than fireworks everywhere, Gr, Cees, good luck in Thailand,, always welcome in Jomtien,,

New Year is indeed celebrated in Thailand, but mainly in the well-known tourist attractions.
the ordinary Thai especially celebrate THEIR New Year, which heralds the beginning of the rainy season and the fertility of the rainfall makes everything grow and bloom again. Songhkran starts in the month of April if I am not mistaken.
in some places it can take from 3/4 days to more than a week…
if you are present during that period, make sure you have enough rain gear because everything and everyone, even the police, will be completely wet… no one can escape it!

Actually better in the Netherlands if you want to do fireworks. As a rule, the Thai don't have that much with our New Year. And if you would like to celebrate with tourists, I would think there is no better place than where there are many tourists. Beach music a drink and fun. Choose one of the many islands. Koh Samui for example.

When making plans, keep in mind that all transport FROM BKK the days before and TO BKK the days after is completely booked out. the trains are known for simply not selling beds on that smelly farang-reserved for Thai. The Thai have extra long "holiday" days off until 3/1 from the 30/12.
As above: if you especially want a lot of noise and drinking, then go to the well-known tourist spots. In Thai regions it is hardly noticeable that it then becomes 2561 at 0.00

There is no New Year in Thailand. Yes, something is organized here and there for the foreigners. The New Year for the Thai is Songkran in early March,

There is indeed a New Year in Thailand on January 1.
Perhaps it will not be celebrated with the same intensity as Songkran by the Thai. Which can.
By the way, Songkran is on April 13, not early March.

The fact is that December 31 and January 1 are official holidays for the Thai.
This year, January 2, 2018(2561BE) is also a day off, because December 31, 2017(2560BE) falls on a Sunday.
This year there is a closing period of 4 days (December 30,31 and January 1,2).
Normally open again on January 3, 2018 (2561BE).
So keep this in mind (including immigration, although you will not incur an "overstay" during the period that immigration is closed. You must then present yourself on the next working day of your immigration office)

In Pattaya it's always a party on New Year's Eve, lots of fireworks all over the beach at midnight and ambiance everywhere!
