Reader question: SD card for car navigation

Dear readers,

I have a new Mazda, but find the SD card for navigation rather expensive (over 17.000 THB!). Is there anyone who can make a clone of the road maps for Thailand? Of course against payment. Or another idea?

Regards,

Martin

Buy a holder for your phone for 20 baht in the 20 baht shop. And navigate for free with google maps on your phone, same as navigation with sd card. Use it in Thailand itself as well.

Instead of Google Maps I use Here We Go. Great app and completely free too. I've only been using this for the last few years in Thailand. You can download the maps at home and put them on an SD card. Then you can also use the app offline, so mobile internet is not necessary.

Just buy a tomtom 6100, updates of all maps of the world.
If you don't want to do it via Google Maps or Maps.Me.

I just navigate with my phone and google maps. Functions perfectly.
Even if you don't know a street name or don't know Thai script.
If you type in Big C Chang Rai, for example, you will be neatly put in front of the door.
    Success!

Install google maps. Works great in thailand. Also buy a holder for your telethon to secure it at about eye level or a little lower for the driver. You don't have to update and it takes into account all congestion and delays. You must have linternet in your telephone package. Costs little! Don't forget to have a road map in your car just to be on the safe side. You never know

My car dealership in chiang mai went one step further.

For my MB C 350e, that 23.500 baht was postponed.
In NL it costs nothing at all??

maybe someone has a solution for me

I personally think Here WeGo is good, you can download it for free via 'Play Store' on your mobile, it works well here in the Isan, add a 20 baht holder and go with that banana.

All well and good, but in the city you will lose your signal through all the buildings and further concrete structures.

Not with my Tomtom anyway, drives through the center of Bangkok every week, no problem at all.
Unfortunately, I have a slightly older version (7 years already) and therefore have to pay for the updates.

      I also use Lord.
What I find very useful is the possibility to also download the maps, for offline use.
So you don't have to use any data while driving.

I've tried it myself with garmin and kamaz navigation, but for me nothing beats the HERE WE GO navigation that can be downloaded for free and also has free updates, in a word great, I'll never get lost again.

For years I have had Tomtom Asié, formerly Tomtom Thailand, no need for internet, works perfectly, even under the concrete roads in Bangkok, one-off costs of ten euros or 5-6.
It's just an app on my iPhone. Those few times you use it, an app with a phone holder that you stick to the windshield is perfect.

Here WeGo can be used without an Internet connection and is free.
You can download maps of countries in advance, but you must have sufficient memory on your SD card.

You can download Google maps maps of the regions you will pass through in advance, so you do not need an Internet connection.
Also saves you data over the Internet or loss of navigation if the connection is not optimal.

Also make sure you have a power bank or power connection on the way for your mobile phone.
Your battery drains faster with the navigation on.

    Dear Lunghan,
I bought a road map from Tomtom 3 years ago but maybe I don't understand the Tomtom but it sends me somewhere I think if I do I don't remember because I happen to know the way, the navigator says turn around which is definitely NOT correct .But maybe the app on iphone is better.

Simply on google maps the country you want to download.
Then you don't need internet and you can use it offline. Connect your smartphone via the lighter plug, you have enough power.

Download the Maps.me app from Google Play, then get the maps of Thailand, for example, but you can get maps from all over the world and put what you need on an SD card. This works without internet, so only GPS.
This is all free to do. Well-arranged, but requires location access, so it indicates where you are at that moment. Also search for the place or address and hop on the route is displayed. Adjustable for transport by car, train, walking, bus. Well organized.

I use SYGIC: satellite based navigation on the smartphone. Costs little and delivers a lot. In addition, MAPS.ME is also a good alternative. Success!
