Dear readers,

My girlfriend is coming to the Netherlands this month, December, with a new Schengen visa for two years. Now I have a question about her return trip in March next year. Is still a long way off and maybe things will change again when we have a vaccine. Still watching coffee grounds.

It is my understanding that her return journey will be arranged through the Thai Embassy, ie her ticket and her stay in quarantine upon her return to Thailand. And that's where my shoe pinches. Our Marechaussee wants to see a return ticket upon arrival in the Netherlands. But if the return journey, including her ticket, is arranged through the Thai embassy, what to do with the return ticket we booked. Is it an option to buy a one way ticket from BKK to AMS?

Will the return ticket arranged by us be converted into another ticket with the intervention of the Thai embassy? And what about her reception when she returns to Thailand? Does this have to be paid for with a self-purchased ticket because the Thai embassy has not arranged a ticket?

I have already called the Marechaussee at Schiphol, but they could not give me a clear answer to the question about the return ticket / one-way ticket. They were talking about asking for a statement from the Thai embassy in which they indicate that they will arrange the return journey.

Anyone have any tips or experience in this?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Chemosabe

It is also important to know whether the Thai state still reimburses repatriation costs such as hotel, meals and tests in Thailand for Thais who now come to the Netherlands on a tourist visa.

You buy the return ticket for her, and you can have the return journey converted via Thai Travel to a date on which a so-called SQ (State Quarantine) flight takes place for € 15. Quarantine in Thailand is free for Thai nationals. For example, there are 2 SQ flights per month. If there is any overstay in the Schengen area, the IND will not make a fuss about it, but you must discuss this with the IND and apply for an extension of the stay.
All hassle, that's right, but nothing compared to the farang who now wants to go to Thailand for a longer period of time, for example to follow his Thai partner. That takes a lot of time and a lot of money. And hassle at the immigration at the BKK airport. Especially the Health services document is critical, the amounts for in- and out-patient medical costs must be explicitly stated. If not good, they demand an extra Thai health services insurance on the spot. The farang is a willing cash cow for the Thai authorities.

I had a return ticket from Swiss Air, but I couldn't convert it, I believe only with a KLM ticket

My Thai wife will fly back to BKK on December 11, for the 2nd time this year. She had a KLM ticket for a different date, but Thaitravel, which is affiliated with the embassy, converted it for 15 euros into a “repat flight” on December 11 and back on March 13 from BKK-AMS.
The 14-day SQ will again be paid by the Thai government, just like last time.
I now only have to arrange a return ticket from AMS-BKK 3 months after March 13. That is what KMAR would like to see when it returns to AMS.
If you look at the Thai Embassy site under corona you will see that they have 2 repat flights every month with SQ (State quarantine). You can register her there. They have 70 seats per KLM flight, so you have to be there as soon as they open registration. They give the registration date approximately 4-5 days in advance. So click on that date at 10.00am. The rest will follow automatically via emails. Good luck!
