Dear readers,

I just checked KLM's website and saw that from September/October flights to Thailand, Bali and Kuala Lumpur can be booked almost daily. Places that are currently sealed shut. I wonder:

  • Is this a theoretical flight schedule in case those countries reopen?
  • Does KLM know something we don't?
  • Or is it a transparent attempt to sell as many tickets as possible for flights that will probably never take place?

Regards,

Mike H

Well, that is KLM anticipating the possibility that Thailand will open its borders... plans and, if not possible, provide a “voucher” instead and thus generate some cash flow,
"voucher flights" could be a good term.

    • joop says up

No. If you cancel, you can get a refund and you still have vouchers
then you can get them back in cash or if paid by credit card, back on your credit card

      Don't get the negativity.

        @joop

Has nothing to do with negativity but with reality , they have to plan , and indeed you can also get money , but do not think immediately .

Even if you do, you should still take into account that the chances of flying to Thailand are extremely slim in the first few months. And I'm betting that the border will not be ajar before the end of the first quarter of 2021!

Not pleasant for aviation and also not for aspiring air tourists, not even for myself living in Thailand with no certainty to be allowed back in after eg a visit to Be. So canceled this year.

We are in serious pandemic trouble with winter on the horizon, and there are already first reports of disaster from doctors.

Hi Mike H, don't kid yourself the Thai government decides when you can fly to Thailand again.
So let's wait and see, but hope it will be ok this year. Greetings Johan

We already bought tickets at the end of 2019 for departure from Amsterdam on October 6, 2020. If we hadn't, I would definitely wait until the borders for Europe to Thailand open again.

      Bart,

I really hope you can leave for Thailand on October 6, but keep in mind that it won't work.
Personally, I think it's not there. October is still too early.
For European tourists, I'm thinking about next year, unless there's a vaccine very soon.

Yesterday there was an Egyptian in Rayong who tested positive for Covid.
Today the whole country is in an uproar here.
The Thai population is terrified of the word Covid. They are really scared, the Thai military government has frightened the population and not least its effect.

      Goodbye,

KLM also had flights from July and August. So assume that this one will not continue either. Unfortunately!!!

    Dear MikeH,

Thai Airways also says that they will start flights to Brussels again from September 1.
What good is it if you can't get in there.
Those airlines have no say, the Thai government decides that and they change their minds all the time.
And here and everywhere the infections are rising sharply again and they know that in Thailand too!!
I would also have to go there to solemnize a legal marriage, but I am not going to buy a ticket at the moment and then not be able to go.
The airline in question may have your money in its possession, but you don't even know when you can go.

Don't count on these flights going through. I certainly wouldn't book in that period.
If flights are allowed at all, then certainly not for the ordinary tourist. Or with a lot of restrictions and a 2-week quarantine in an expensive hotel that you have to pay for yourself. KLM knows as much as you do I think. Now that the so-called safe countries also have a 2nd Corona wave (China, Australia, among others), Thailand will be very careful about opening its borders. I have already resigned myself to the fact that it will probably not be “normal” again until next year.

    • LOUISE says up

      @,

Besides the corona wave (you), China now also has an outbreak of the Bubonic plaque, mouth and feet..so just foot and mouth disease, (Daily Mirror) which has closed another piece in China.

So Thailand can just take China off the list for now.

Could be different tomorrow, very unreliable, Lufthansa does fly.

Because Thailand is still locked down, all passenger flights are now subject to the country opening soon (September?).

So far it has been as unpredictable as the Dutch weather. We also look for the month of November. You can book though. But what is the status then? Some airlines now use very broad, often free, policies to change tickets.

I expect a run on tickets once they finally decide to open up the country to us again. Without quarantine issues of course.

A few corona cases in Rayong and Pattaya this week.
Schools were closed until further notice yesterday!

The Thai government will not be keen to open the borders any further.
And today on TV saw a very short tethered MP Prayuth!

I had contact with someone in Pattaya yesterday evening, it appears that there are new infections in Bangkok and Rayong, there is talk that government officials have returned from Egypt and have not been in quarantine.
I wonder if this will be announced by the Thai government?

KLM also now flies to BKK, but only as a stopover for the flight to Kuala Lumpur. Just look at KLM.com and search for a flight to Kuala Lumpur. It is possible that someone who has permission to enter Thailand can disembark in BKK with hand luggage.

    • Dirk says up

The phrase “…with hand luggage can disembark in BKK.” does not make any sense. Those who have permission can simply take hold luggage. Was previously confirmed by a forum member who was allowed to travel to Thailand.

  12. Nico says up

    Why book?
when it opens you can book the next day you can leave enough space why make it so difficult, no risk.

  13. Gerrit says up

Been waiting for the voucher / refund from that great KLM for quite some time
State aid, but customers are letting go...
And just offer emails with flights to BKK….
    Scandalous….

    I'm done with them!!!!!!

    • Joop says up

      Dear Gerrit.

There are state guarantees and yes, restitution takes a while. Work pressure is great
      and lasts about 3 months.

    • Joop says up

      Dear Gerrit.

The state aid consists of guarantees and loans are repaid. KLM gets
not just a gift of money.

As they say, the refund of the vouchers takes about 3 months. I
got my money back after 2,5 months. Just ask, you have a refund number.

      Not so bitter.

      Kind regards, Joe

It is known that flying back to Thailand is made more difficult by the carona virus.
But your trainer may need to have a Fit to fly document, with an addition on top
must undergo a test within 72 hours of the date of departure that you are carona free + a health care certificate in English or an insurance of 100000 $, these are all the obstacles that stand in the way of a simple booking.
In addition, you may still have to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival at your own expense. That does not make booking any easier.

  15. Bob says up

The Thai Embassy will not process visa applications until further notice; nice and handy, when flights start again soon, not only will the 6 m2 waiting area be full, but there will be a queue outside until the peace palace….

  16. Bulent says up

It seems that half of the population (Thai) does not want tourists to enter! I think it will change after a month . It is not easy to hand out money to the other half of the population for a long time to come!! In Europe it also only took 3-4 months before they were wise enough to open the doors, I still have hope that I will fly there October 1st.
