Is Chumphon right for us?

Dear readers,

We went to Koh Chang last year. We liked it very much. Now we doubt whether to see more of Thailand or to go to Vietnam. On Koh Chang we enjoyed the peace and the local population. Enjoy touring the island on a scooter. We love peace, good food, beach and sea and visit some nice shops in between. Not too much tourism.

Chumphon seems to be moving in our direction nicely. Only I read a little different stories on this blog. Most see it as a transit to the south. Still, it seems ideal to me that you are also at the other islands. Now I don't know if all this is easy to travel?.

We traveled with a (luxury taxi) from Bangkok to Koh Chang last year. This was perfect. Can this also be done from Bangkok to Chumphon? The main question is whether Chumphon meets our expectations? We intend to stay for 2 to 3 weeks.

Regards,

Joe & Will

Type Chumphon into the search box and find quite a few stories about it
this beautiful and peaceful province of Chumphon

Bangkok – Koh Chang is 320 km, Bangkok Chumpon is 390 km. I don't think it's a problem to also travel this route by "luxury" taxi, it will probably cost 500 baht more than koh Chang. So count on a small 4000 baht for this route. A good day for the driver in Thailand (he has 1000 baht left), in the Netherlands that is the price for Schiphol-Hilversum. Anyway.

What I can recommend: Rush Taxi Thailand. just google. English is spoken, perfect cars, neat and cheap service. I have been using them to koh Chang (Trat) for 8 years.

    Dear Jo and Will,
I have 20 years of experience in Chumphon and have been a permanent resident here for several years. So feel right at home here.
From Suvarnabhumi Airport it is no problem at all to travel to Chumphon by 'private taxi'. It is not 390 km, as mentioned above, but more than 500 km. You can get a taxi from the airport itself and, despite what some might say, the prices aren't that different from what you'll pay elsewhere and you won't have to drag your luggage around. You then have the certainty of having a reliable taxi. For the 525 km long ride you will pay between 6 and 7000 THB. Lung addie has already used it several times.

About Chumphon: Lung addie posted 11 articles on this blog: 'on the road', one of which appeared on this blog yesterday. Use the search above left and you can read them all. There were also many other topics about the region here (about 25) from the same author.

I would not recommend the 'town of Chumphon' itself as a holiday accommodation. Take a look at Thung Wualaen Beach, located about 15 km from Chumphon and a nice base for further exploration of the region. The Nana Beach Resort in Thung Wualaen is recommended, a good mid-range resort. Beautiful quiet beach, plenty of Thai-Farang food options…. no mass tourism.

Regarding the accessibility of the islands like Phuket, Koh Samui: From Chumphon there is a Lompryah connection twice a day with Koh Toa-Koh Phangan-Koh Samui, there are buses to Phuket, all reachable in half a day trip.

    So plenty of options.
If you want more details or have specific questions: always willing to help you: [email protected] ….. you are not the first ones I guide in the area.
