Last week, the Thai government increased the excise duty on kerosene by 1.900 percent: from 20 satang per liter to 4 baht. Airlines are now trying to take advantage of that. They have raised the prices of airline tickets on domestic flights more than necessary.

We, my girlfriend and I, have had an internet cafe here in the Isaan for about 10 years now. Received a new paper permit three times, never any problems. We are moving to a larger building across the street and now we have to apply for a permit again. Which I found strange.

Versatile Vietnam (part 1)

Drunk drivers are death drivers, as was proven once again when a fifty-year-old female street sweeper was hit by a car while at work. Members of an anti-alcohol activist group therefore handed over an open letter to Governor Aswin of Bangkok with the request to pay more attention to the safety of municipal employees and the approach to alcohol in traffic.

Reader question: Passport valid for less than six months

Today we crossed the border into Cambodia. We are going back to Thailand at the end of this month. Now we just found out (very stupidly) that 1 passport is valid until Sept 6, 2017 and our return flight is March 16, 2017, so the passport is valid for 10 days less than the prescribed 6 months.

I myself have been living here in Thailand for 15 years now and have dual nationality… Dutch and Thai. I have a Thai mother and a Dutch father. My father has been here in hospital for several weeks now, and his health is not too good. Now I know that my father has (tax) debts in the Netherlands and Thailand.

In an opinion piece in the Bangkok Post, the author of the article argues to copy the Dutch electric tuk-tuk. Remarkably, electrically powered tricycles have been produced since 2008 in the Tuk Tuk Factory of the Dutch owner in Thailand and are exported to all parts of the world.
