Women who go shopping alone should watch out for criminals. This call comes after the assault of a 46-year-old Thai woman in the parking garage of Tesco Lotus Rama IV in the Klong Toey district of Bangkok on June 23.

The woman told her story on Facebook and wants to draw attention to the insecurity in the large and sometimes dark parking garages at shopping centers.

The victim came to her car in the evening after shopping, when she opened the door she was attacked by a man. He immediately started to abuse her and punched her several times in the face. She begged the man to stop beating, but he continued. She eventually managed to flee and other visitors took care of the woman who had a nosebleed and injuries to her face. Guards of the parking garage try to find the attacker, but he was nowhere to be seen.

The perpetrator had probably selected the victim because the car was parked quite far from the entrance of the store. The police advises not to park your car in remote or poorly lit places.

The police are investigating the case and are trying to track down the culprit.

Another confirmation that Thailand is on the decline in terms of crime. If upon arrival in a parking garage there are only spaces available that are far from the entrance, then what do you do…. Thailand has cameras in many locations, hopefully that was the case here as well.

This happened in one of the most notorious neighborhoods of Bangkok. This neighborhood can even be avoided during the day.

This is also the reason that there are separate women's parking spaces in parking garages, especially in Germany, but I'm afraid that motorists in Thailand pay as much attention to that as they do to other traffic rules......

In Chiang mai, there is also an extra women's parking space in the shopping mall. Also be checked when entering

In Khon Kaen too. Clearly indicated in pink and with the well-known gates on wheels, with some employees supervising. My wife always drove a car in Thailand, when I was there in 2014 we couldn't find a place for 1-2-3 while there was plenty of space at the female-only location. Just when I suggested that I had better get out and she could drive on alone, we still found a normal parking spot.

I always thought that the women's parking spaces were just a bit bigger, because you can drive in and out of them more easily.
And yes, you can of course also create extra monitored and illuminated places for women in the park and on the beach and at the campsite and in the forest and in pedestrian tunnels and in cafes and in hospitals and in offices and shopping centers. Or in the living room or bedroom, where many women are also abused.
I think it has something to do with symbolic politics and false security.

Without speculating… To me it seems to be a targeted action on the lady. The story does not indicate what was -eventually- taken away?

Or is it - just another confused man picking out victims to pound on? Hopefully he will be caught soon.
