Mayor Sonthaya Kunplome says Pattaya has bought 100.000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine for its residents. This involves an investment of 8,8 million baht.

The doses are being bought, at the retail price of 888 baht, from the Chulabhorn Royal Academy, who previously decided to import 1 million doses of Sinopharm because they were dissatisfied with the government's failure to produce enough vaccines.

The Chulabhorn Royal Academy sells the Sinopharm vaccine for 888 baht per dose and prohibits buyers from passing higher costs on to the public. The price covers the costs of the vaccine, transport and insurance against side effects.

The municipality and the business community want to vaccinate 120.000 people in Pattaya and the surrounding area, of which 80.000 are over 19 years old, including senior citizens. The municipality and companies are trying to do everything they can to vaccinate at least 70 percent of the local population in order to reopen the city to foreign tourism.

However, the government has prioritized the Bangkok metropolitan area, leaving Chonburi with only meager allocations of vaccines made by Sinovac Biotech and AstraZeneca PLC.

Sonthaya did not disclose when the Sinopharm vaccines will be delivered, but said the city will soon initiate registration for the vaccine, both online and through registration forms that will be distributed within communities by city officials

DirkJan, not only Pataya but gradually everyone here is starting to get white hot or stressed, if you want to call it that, with this government policy.
But Prayut will remain in power until the next elections in 2014, which means we are not yet rid of this floundering policy.

Dear DirkJan, the Prime Minister has said that he wants to open everything in 120 days, provided that 50 million vaccinations have been done and not "vaccinated or not" as you write.
See below: His 120-day target would mean Thailand media opens fully in October and by then around 50 million Thais will have received at least their first Covid shot.

With the current numbers of infections (in total but also daily) and the number of deaths on a population of 69 million, no one, but no one in this country needs to be stressed, unless you are in prison or live in a huddle with others.
Wanting to vaccinate everyone has more to do with fear and lowering the risk of getting Covid (and that chance is now 0,25%, so say 1 in 400) than with the actual threat of the virus in this country .
But perhaps or probably you will no longer be allowed to fly without vaccination and you will no longer receive a visa. So there is soft coercion.

I hear that a lot of people here distrust this Chinese stuff. Like many others, I would like to pay for Pfizer, but you don't hear much about that either. If they had the people who want to pay for Pfizer order through the private hospitals, it could go much faster. Currently in Quarantine but don't think I would do it again. The information you get when booking does not correspond to reality. Despite 3 tests, still have to be stuck in the room for a week.

      Quarantine in 2 weeks.
I searched and read hundreds of reviews.
Still opted for a more expensive one, with good reviews.

    Dear Peter,
I suspect something is wrong with your calculator. If the total investment is THB 8.800.000 for 100.000 doses, then I think the price per dose is THB 88 and not THB 888. That is also more in line with the amounts quoted as prices for other vaccines. Unless there is a link somewhere in between that earns a lot of money.
