Three of the suspects from the criminal network of Pongpat Chayaphan arrested on Wednesday are no longer allowed to use the surname assigned by the Royal House. From now on they must use their civil surname.

This is the latest notable development in the corruption scandal centered on Pongpat, former head of the Central Investigation Bureau. The three are former employees in the office of the Crown Prince's Chief of Staff and the Royal Household Bureau.

The demotion order was sent to the police by the Crown Prince's Personal Affairs Division on Friday and is circulating on social media. The three all have the same civil surname, but the message does not state what their family relationship is.

The granting of a new surname is possible under the Surnames Act of 1915. A family whose members have served the country or the palace can apply. When such a name is awarded, it is a great honor. In addition to the three suspects, there must be more persons with that surname, because the newspaper writes that the withdrawal applies to all persons who use the name. [No Details]

During a house search in the house of the (arrested) brother of Pongpat, the protected makha mong and teak found. Some pieces bear the mark of the Royal Forest Department. According to a family member, the wood belongs to Pongpat.

At a furniture store owned by another suspect, police seized 2.800 boards makha, teak and pradoo worth 7 million baht. The Fine Arts Department has been asked to inspect the store because other artifacts have also been found.
