Big C is at odds with its main competitor Tesco Lotus. The hypermarket has launched a civil suit for unfair competition and is seeking 415 million baht in damages.

According to Big C, Tesco Lotus has violated the Business Competition Act. Tesco Lotus is not aware of any harm. The company says it has not violated the law.

The argument is about a promotional campaign that Big C launched in February because of the acquisition of Carrefour. Customers received a discount on presentation of their receipt for later purchases in both stores. Tesco Lotus said it would also accept the vouchers and offered higher discounts. The company also started a campaign aimed at the holders of a Carrefour I-Wish card. When they sent a text message to the company, they received gift cards in return.

In addition to going to court, Big C has also gone to the Trade Competition Committee, which is chaired by the Secretary of Commerce. The new minister Kittirat Na-Ranong therefore does not have to sit still.
