The Minister of Health, Anutin Charnvirakul, proposes to extend the suspension of the Test & Go program until the end of the month.

In addition, he wants foreign tourists who already have a Thailand Pass for Test & Go to use it before January 10. On January 4, the Thai cabinet will make a decision about the Test & Go program that has been suspended due to the emergence of the Omicron variant.

Tourists who nevertheless want to go to Thailand can then use the Phuket Sandbox program. One must then book a 7-day stay on Phuket in a SHA+ hotel and undergo a PCR test there twice. After a first negative test, you can move freely on the island.

So if I understand correctly, you can only travel with your thailand pass until January 10th. So if you go a week later, that is no longer possible, despite a valid Thailand pass. And rebooking to a date before January 10 is also not possible because no new Thailand pass will be issued. So just stop.

    • Robin says up

But if I understand it correctly, will it be final tomorrow or can we already assume that this is going to be it?

    • Madeleine says up

Hey… that's how I understood it too. I'm flying the 11th to meet a good friend again. I would then arrive the 12th. So I am also 2 days late…
And what you say, rebooking to earlier makes no sense. So we won't be able to see each other again...

      Sincerely,
      Madeleine

    • collin says up

I leave January 10 January 11 I arrive so too late so I have to rebook everything now before I can get there before January 10 Amay if I understand it that way not much time left pffff

      • French Patays says up

Rebooking makes no sense, because the Thailand pass will state that you arrive on January 11.
        Early arrival is not allowed.

        • collin says up

          - Yes. However, flight changes are allowed within 72 hours of the original flight time recorded in the Thailand Pass without the need to apply for a new Thailand Pass QR code, provided all other required documents remain valid.

          – However, in case of flight change. Travelers can change flights up to 72 hours from the time of the original flight registered with Thailand Pass without requesting a new Thailand Pass QR code. However, this is Other documents must still be complete and latest as defined.

          • Cornelis says up

72h AFTER the original flight, not before……. Bringing forward will invalidate your Thailand Pass.

      • Cornelis says up

But if you succeed you can no longer use your Thailand Pass before the 11th…….

  2. Marcel says up

So fully vaccinated and then using 7 days of quarantine in Pattaya or Bangkok is no longer possible?

    • Renee Henrard says up

You can only travel 'directly' to Phuket. Everything is neatly explained on the website of the Thai embassy.

      Regards,

      René

    • Danny ter Horst says up

This is only about the Test&Go…….so I assume (if you wish) that one can still be locked up in a hotel room in Pattaya or Bangkok for 7 days. (Although from Pattaya I dare not give any guarantees)

  3. Jan says up

What about the promise that already issued passes can still be used… My wife went last weekend and I would follow her on January 15…. What now ? So nothing???
    Regards Jan.

  4. Menno says up

Will float up again that January 10th. My pass has been approved for 2 months before arrival on February 9. I've reached the point where I'll take a look this week (tomorrow) and wait for the official publication in the Thai Royal Gazette, then cancel everything with pain in my heart.

Rebooking everything to the Phuket sandbox is simply impossible. Exciting week.

  5. Rob says up

If this continues, we will be happy again, we will fly January 16, so first say that those who have a Thailand pass can still enter and later turn everything back, they are really totally incapable drivers, or will it be revoked again tomorrow just like 2 weeks ago.
We'll just have to wait and see patiently.

  6. WIBAR says up

As usual another idiotic move by this minister. At first the situation was that existing q-pass issues can be continued under the test and go program. Now this craziness. 2 x vaccinated + a booster, PCR test before you go and PCR test on arrival, what else do you need? Do you still have to be locked up in a hotel room like a pariah for 10 days or 14 days? Nice if you have booked a holiday for 3 weeks. My scheduled departure is on January 20. Rebooking is not possible because that date is clearly stated in the issued Q-pass. You can forget about claiming travel insurance when you don't go. First test and go hotel night is non-refundable. Challenge roughly 300 euros in total. Hopefully the flight tickets can still be cancelled. I'm not happy about all this. If that minister gets this sanctioned then I think I will not visit Thailand at all this year. Do go somewhere else with more consistent policies. What idiocy.

  7. Luc Muyshondt says up

So you could do the phuket sandbox after January 10th. But what about your flight? You are not allowed to make a stopover in Thailand for the phuket sandbox or is that allowed in this case?

    • Robin says up

No. that is not allowed. You are not allowed to land in Bangkok. We are going to Feb 3 for 3 weeks, but KLM does not fly directly to Phuket and then we have 2 x a stopover where we wonder what the situation is with the quarantine in Dubai or Singapore, for example…
If you are not allowed to transfer in Bangkok, you are allowed in other countries..
It looks really messed up in there. I also wonder if you can cancel your flight with KLM because of course they do fly to Bangkok and they will be concerned whether you have to be quarantined there.
We don't think Phuket is a disaster, at least you don't have to stay in the hotel, but crammed into a hotel for 7 days for a holiday of 3 weeks is no go.

      • Renee Henrard says up

Swissair flies to Phuket from Zurich.
        So I took that option…

        Regards,

        René

      • Any says up

We also fly with Qatar on February 3 and have decided to change everything.
Fortunately, we were able to book with Qatar for free.
So now first 7 days to Phuket.
Hopefully you will also be able to book again.
        Good luck Any.

      • S Verboom says up

        Hi Robin ,
Just come to phuket and being crammed into a hotel is not an issue here. There are hardly any people and this is over with old and new. I just came from Khao lak and it is extinct there, hotels with 60 guests that can have 400. It's sad to see. But the sun is shining and the temperature is great so I'm not complaining.
Good luck and have a nice trip

        • Robin says up

We really want to go to Phuket, but we have lost a ridiculous amount of extra money via KLM. We had booked the tickets to BKK and KLM does not fly directly to Phuket. So.. and a lot of extra money lost and 30 hours on the road. That is not an option for us. Ee have decided to wait and hope very hard that we will be on Feb 3rd. can still fly to BKK. If that doesn't look like it then we will cancel, we have been informed that we can do so one day in advance and then we will get our money back.
Of course we hope we can go!!

    • Jess says up

I understand from a previous post that this is possible via Doha or Singapore. You just can't change trains in Bangkok, I understand. We now want to try to do the Sandbox with KLM via Singapore. But I'm not entirely sure.

      • Robin says up

Can you let me know if that works and what the extra costs are?

  8. Tourist SP says up

While even Belgian's biggest fear house virologist mr Van Ranst is starting to see it positively, Thailand seems to be tightening up.

  9. Frank says up

If this minister is right, we are pretty screwed. We leave with Qatar on the 9th and arrive in Thailand on the 10th.

Hopefully January 10 will be the last arrival date (at least for us). Even better that everything stays as it is now. Also for the people who fly after us and already have a Pass. Then they better postpone the reintroduction of the Pass.

I think the worst thing is that you don't know where you stand so shortly before departure.

    • Eddy says up

Hello Frank, My arrival is also scheduled for January 10th in Bangkok.

From the Thai news, I conclude that January 10 is the last date that you are allowed to enter Bangkok.

The news about this in English is very confusing and contradictory.

      1) Richard Barrow

      https://mobile.twitter.com/richardbarrow?lang=en
“..those who already have a Thailand Pass for Test & Go, must enter before 10 January.”
The blue image under the tweet then reads “Travellers who arrive after that date [January 10], they must do the Phuket sandbox”

      2) The same contradiction in The Thaiger
      https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/possible-amendments-to-test-go-for-thailand-pass

However, the news in Thai is clearer:
      https://www.matichon.co.th/covid19/news_3114611.

“Mr. Anutin said that for those who registered in the test and go system previously. We have to ask for cooperation that if you want to exercise the rights as registered. Must travel in by January 10 only.”

    • stefan says up

Idd what a pity (and very stupid), I have a pass for my wife and 2 children and now I read that we are not welcome (4 x tickets, accommodations and 1 night quarantine hotel everything gone ... outrageous) ... money and box gone …mess; kgo cancel my vacation, damn….Thailand decision technically another 3rd world country.

      • Fernand Van Tricht says up

I had a ticket from Thaiairways to fly to Bangkok on 6 Jan and back to Brussels on 4 March..also booked app for 1 month and paid 275€.
        Requested Thailandpass..but was 1 d too late.
I could cancel the ticket at Thai, but I lost the app in Pattaya for €275…now I have 2 vouchers from Thaiair….

    • FrankyR says up

      Hallo,

Very annoying indeed if this were to continue. And then so short that you can't do anything. Besides getting on a plane?

If Qatar does not take you, then you know for sure that all will not happen. I have already put a holiday in my beloved Thailand out of my mind.

      Maybe in 2023…

  10. Bill says up

I'm flying on January 11th, if January 10th is the deadline, would I still be able to change? Within 72 hours?

  11. Peter says up

That was to be expected. Everything looks favorable and the rules are relaxed. Everyone will make plans and book on this. NOW the weather is getting worse, Thailand is adjusting the rules and we are faced with the problems of changes or not being able to go.
Just be patient until things get back to normal. I postpone my annual visit for another year.
I understand the impatience of many visitors, but it is better to wait and see.

  12. Bondi says up

I fly January 9th and arrive January 10th if that doesn't change after tomorrow I'm screwed too….
    Or just try??

  13. Jos says up

I can't imagine people who already have a Thailand Pass being refused. What to do with all those people who don't read this and just get on a plane? Are they going to return them all? Or do they send a message to everyone who has applied for a Thailand Pass? And what happens to the costs of the ticket, hotel, visa and insurance? That would be a very bad advertisement for Thailand.

    • January says up

      josh,

they will not refuse you . They're just going to take you to your quarantined hotel. And you will not be allowed to leave your room for the next 7 days. And you pay the costs of your stay.

      • Jos says up

Then they will have to send a message to everyone who already has a Thailand Pass. Because they can't assume that everyone has read this message. And then you cannot immediately confront those people with a 7-day quarantine when they arrive in Bangkok. Although in Thailand everything is possible.

        • Color says up

          Jos
When applying for your TP, you signed the general terms and conditions for acknowledgment and acceptance of all terms and conditions. This includes the fact that the Pass can be withdrawn at any time and that you must regularly check the (changed) conditions yourself before departure through the appropriate channels.
But don't be afraid of any mandatory quarantine: you will be sent back when you board, otherwise the airline will have to pay for your quarantine (on top of a hefty fine).
          Color

      • Cornelis says up

You won't even get on the plane, Jan!

  14. Dennis says up

Thailand should not make any mistakes now. Cancellation of already issued Thailand Pass after January 10 will mean that tourists will be extremely, extremely reluctant to book in the near future. Because who buys tickets when you suddenly see everything canceled at the last minute?

A third year in a row is disastrous for Thailand. It's not just about money anymore, it's also about trust. Almost the whole world is open, except for Thailand, a country that normally earns a lot from tourism. Hopefully the rest of the cabinet will see that the group with a valid Thailand Pass is limited and the consequences are great. But yes, Thai logic is inimitable

  15. Philippe says up

Let's wait and see whether the advice of the Minister of Health is always followed? Is the minister of economy, minister of tourism not being listened to?
Would they really shoot themselves in the foot? I hope not, not only for us who would lose 500 or thousands of euros because of this, but especially for those millions of Thai who rely on tourism and are waiting for this because the water is on their lips.

    • Dennis says up

Latest news (rumor) via Richard Barrow; Prayut has agreed to the proposal, so suspension of Test& Go until the end of January and already issued Thailand Pass must arrive in Thailand before 10 January 00.00:XNUMX. Thailand Pass for later dates would therefore no longer be valid. Final decision as. Friday, but if Prayut agrees to it at all, then I see it gloomy.

Thailand again makes the mistake of closing the country (as one of the few countries in the world and that for a country that is heavily dependent on tourism) and in the meantime just let everyone travel through the country on New Year's Eve. So another wave of infection through the country, just Thai among themselves. Prayut has made that mistake before, but it doesn't seem to bother him.

Incidentally, the already issued Thailand Pass would be about 90.000. On average, 1% of them are infected. That is 900 people, who will enter the country over several weeks. Basically peanuts! The really large numbers of infections are due to unhindered travel and people who do not take their responsibility. Just sayin; You can put on a face mask in shops, but not as soon as you are back in the car or at home. Well…

      • Peter (editor) says up

Barrow: I just spoke to the State Department again and they say they have not been advised of any decision on Test & Go and as far as they know discussions are still ongoing. The next CCSA meeting is the big one on Wednesday and Friday. Please wait for the official announcement.

  16. Jan says up

Well that's nice then. Would fly with Emirates on the 12th. Everything in order (Th Pass) and paid (ticket, SHA + hotel and PCR test} I wonder if I will get my money back if it does indeed go through that the 10th will be locked.

  17. Jeffrey says up

So if I understand correctly, it is already following if you want to visit Thailand.

You arrive in Phuket and within 2 days you have to do a PCR test on site, if negative you can visit the island freely.

After the second negative test and on the seventh day you can visit all of Thailand? Can someone confirm this please? 🙂

    • Peter (editor) says up

      Right.

      • French says up

right…I also have to rebook, although nothing has been definitively decided…

      • Jeffrey says up

        Thank you Peter and Frans!

  18. Alex says up

All very annoying indeed. However, this does not stop us and we are going to Thailand on January 29 for 2 months, then with 7 days of quarantine in BKK.

  19. Marcel says up

I have already arranged my KLM flight and insurance. Fortunately via KLM so I get a voucher if I cancel myself.

Of course I have lost money from my test and go hotel…….

I still want to go and if necessary use the 7-day quarantine. My travel date is March.
Are there people who have experiences with what the hotels do where you have booked the 7-day quarantine?
By this I mean if, for example, the test and go comes back in a few weeks (before March)

Sorry I hope my question is a bit clear………..

  20. Patt says up

It's not that easy. You have to go to Phuket and quarantine there.

    • Marcel says up

So also the entire 7-day quarantine Bangkok - Pattaya is off????? I hadn't understood that yet.......

      • Frank B. says up

No, you cannot change your flight. If you advance it, your Thailand Pass will expire.

        See also: https://www.thailandblog.nl/reizen/thailand-pass-vluchtwijziging-niet-toegestaan/
        Or: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/talk-of-test-go-cutoff-date-approved-travellers-cant-reschedule-flights

  21. danny says up

if i go to thailand two days earlier with the thailand pass is that a problem?

    • French Pattaya says up

      Yes, that's a problem.
Arriving in Thailand earlier than the date on your Thailand pass is not allowed.

    • Jeffrey says up

Yes, because the new flight details are not listed on your ThailandPass and the arrival date is no longer correct.
