As of today (18.00 p.m.), foreign travelers from risk areas outside the European Union must show a negative PCR test when they enter the Netherlands. Travelers from Thailand are excluded because they come from a 'safe' country.

This is one of the Dutch measures to prevent the import and spread of the coronavirus. The negative test does not yet apply to Dutch citizens and EU residents and their family members who travel (back) from outside the EU/Schengen.

Travelers from a country outside the EU/Schengen that is not on the list of safe countries of the European Union and that is also exempt from the EU entry ban, must be able to provide a negative PCR test result not older than 72 hours. They must also complete a Negative Test Declaration. Otherwise they will not enter the country.

Travelers who require a negative COVID-19 test result and statement

Travelers must present a negative COVID-15 test result and statement from December 2020, 18.00, 19:XNUMX PM, if they:

  • come from a country that is not on the list of safe countries of the European Union;
  • come from outside the EU/Schengen;
  • come by plane or ship;
  • be 13 years or older;
  • do not fall under an exception category.

The negative test statement is for travelers from high-risk areas outside the EU/Schengen area. Travelers from countries that are 'safe' according to the EU therefore do not have to show a negative test statement. At the moment the safe countries are:

  • Australië
  • Japan
  • New Zealand
  • Rwanda
  • Singapore (from October 27, 2020)
  • South Korea
  • Thailand
  • Uruguay
  • China (if China also allows European travelers again)

    That may be true, but many airlines also require a PCR covid test, so you have to arrange one anyway. I'm in Thailand now and flying back with Etihad airways at the end of April and they certainly require a negative test.

    I'm going to see where I can do that best in Thailand.

    Does anyone have experience with that?

    I've been back in Thailand for a week, after I was forced to be in the Netherlands for 10 months. I dare say that 99% of the infections in the Netherlands are caused by people who simply live in the Netherlands.
    And not by visiting foreigners. But as said, a negative Covid statement is required by most airlines.
