Two Thai nightclubs in Pattaya were unexpectedly raided by Chonburi authorities. Provincial orders to close due to the coronavirus pandemic were flouted.

Chonburi Governor Naris Niramaiwong and soldiers from the Internal Security Operations Command visited the Pirate Hostess Club at Soi Bongkot 21 and the Texas Pattaya nightclub at South Road on March 8

Both were full of young Thais drinking alcohol and partying seemingly carefree despite calls about social distancing due to the prevailing coronavirus.

At Soi Bongkot 8 club, who pretended to have other pursuits on the ground floor, operated a nightclub upstairs. Authorities arrested the manager and charged him with not only violating the provincial shutdown order, but also serving alcohol without a license and operating an unlicensed nightclub. The company is likely facing a five-year shutdown.

This Thai-oriented club was shut down by the authorities and also arrested the security guard who tried unsuccessfully to hide a gun.

The owner of the bar Zottekot 3 Soi Buakhow Soi 19 was also arrested.
