A senior Mae Hong Son police officer is suspected of running a prostitution network in the North that is tolerated by local politicians and officials. The police station has launched an investigation, the suspected officer and three other officers have been transferred to another province in the course of the investigation.

The scandal came to light in November when the mother of a 14-year-old girl recognized her daughter in a photo with prostitutes.

Police spokesman Krissana denies reports that senior police officials have pushed for the investigation to be dropped. He says the investigation is continuing and evidence is being collected in order to apply for an arrest warrant against the suspects.

Residents in Phrae where the officer now works have asked for the transfer to be reversed. They are afraid that he will continue his illegal activities in their province. The head of the Phrae Provincial Police wants to await the investigation first.

I heard the whole story from my wife, because it has been on the news extensively and apparently shocked the community. Every time I read and hear messages like this, the past comes up again. I myself worked for more than 40 years with the police in the Netherlands and, among other things, seven years with serious crime and fifteen years with the aliens police, in which many human trafficking, smuggling and abuse (criminal) cases passed in review. Forced prostitution occurs everywhere and certainly in the Netherlands, where more than 80% of women of easy morals are not on the Amsterdam red light district out of love for work. Often forced and certainly the eastern bloc ladies, I could write a book about that. Those things are appalling and the men who use/abuse them are just as guilty of it. But they prefer to look the other way, or they won't care why those ladies are sitting there, as long as they get their pleasure. In Thailand, years ago, we saw the Russian prostitutes come and never leave, other than that they die or become ill and are no longer useful for the sex industry. Do you remember the two Russian prostitutes who were found dead on the beach in Pattaya a few years ago. Anyone who does not cooperate with the Russian mafia will be killed or abused, or the family (children) of the women in question will be subjected to violence. There is nothing to back down from. Humanity in its diversity. (Modern) slavery is indispensable and will always be a source of income for the crazy souls among us who have made it their job.
The Thai police are a group apart. I know that there are also good motivated police officers in Thailand, but there is a large group that is corrupt to the bone. In some Thai areas where there is no further supervision and the police can do what they want, things are very wrong given the reporting. Other dignitaries are also guilty of prostituting minors. Everyone has their own motives for this, but these people are also criminally involved and not worthy of their position.
Why those senior police officers are only transferred and not suspended as in the Netherlands is a mystery to me. Either you take it seriously or you don't do anything, but half-baked work makes you think again. I understand that everything is denied by those involved and the proof will be very difficult. The stories of the 14-year-old girl and her mother speak volumes, but those in power will not sit still and try to debunk everything, so I will be curious how this will turn out. Hopefully justice will prevail, but things are often very different.

As far as I can oversee in the 10 years that I have lived and lived here (both in my own living environment and knowledge of the lifestyle of an important number of hisos in this country), power, money and (paid) sex are much more closely related - and on different ways – intertwined than in the Netherlands. On the one hand, there is prostitution in which women/girls from poor families (or unemployed women) are paid – voluntarily or not – for sex. On the other side are the escorts, gigs, movie stars who 'sell' themselves for unimaginably high amounts or for other favors (like a new contract) per night.
Another story is the sex between well-known, famous Thai people, which often leads to forms of influencing behavior that we in the Netherlands would call blackmail. In the cases I know of, not only men gain power over folding, but women also gain power over men.
Perhaps enough material to dedicate a separate post to.

        Dear Chris,
That may all be true, but this is about a 14-year-old girl who was more or less forced into prostitution by powerful figures. That's a mean crime.

What you write here has little to do with that. That's about consensual sex between adults, which is something completely different.

Transferred to another province? Deactivating it would be more obvious. I can imagine that Phrae is not happy with this "lottery ticket".
An idiotic measure against someone suspected of such a thing. And apparently suspicion is serious enough, because “stationing” someone about 400 km away is not a reward for proper functioning.

How can I not be surprised by this, and if it wasn't a member of the police already.
Then it would probably have been another prominent member of politics or another Thai government body.

It is no different in Pattaya. Second Road towards Naklua. Last bar on the left, where they have those very young girls. I asked one of the girls for her ID. Well, for some reason she didn't have it with her. Then of course stated that I didn't believe she was already 1 and if they weren't afraid of police control. No, because the boss himself was a police officer…. And this will probably not be the only bar.

I once ended up in a large café in Bangkok where many girls in school uniforms under the age of 15 offered themselves to much older, often Chinese, men during school time (about 11 o'clock). (wasn't a face by the way)
The owner of the cafe was a police officer.
That's how it goes here and that's how it will continue.
My wife said that this is a normal thing here.
I understand that in Mae Hong Son in this case, the mother of the girl in question wants to pillory the officer.
The government has rushed to say if found guilty he would be irrevocably dismissed and not transferred.
My wife says that will mean irrevocable death for the mother.
