Help for the national airline THAI
Thai Airways International (THAI), Thailand's flag carrier with a debt of 245 billion baht, must recover at all costs. A committee of wise men has been formed to help the company emerge from the years of raging crisis.
The committee is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu. Director General Prapas of the State Enterprise Policy Office also serves on the committee. The first step is to ask the countries where THAI is active to participate in the recovery of THAI. For example, they try to prevent foreign creditors from seizing the airline.
They also sit down with creditors to explain the rehabilitation plan that should help THAI recover. The plan offers the airline some breathing space because it will give them a postponement of payment without creditors being able to file for bankruptcy.

Yes, the longer they wait to restart the deeper the pit gets.
Thousands of Europeans are waiting to leave, but bookings keep getting cancelled.
My ticket was rebooked to 02/11/2020 to depart. I hope from the bottom of my heart to be able to leave. Hopefully everything will be fine by then, except we have a relapse and have to go into Lock down again. Borders Thailand open again from 01/07/2020. Does anyone know if we have to quarantine for 03 days on arrival in Thailand on 11/14?
walter,
I think it's a bit of an odd question.
How could anyone look 6 months ahead? No one can answer your question.
The borders will open from 01/07/2020, it looks like that, but everything can still change and the Dutch or Belgians are certainly not among the safe countries. There are only a few names on the list of safe countries from which tourists may be allowed back. If I'm not mistaken this is China and South Korea.
Goodbye,
As Geert writes, no one can answer your question whether you have to quarantine for another 14 days in November. I too have booked a flight with departure November 1. The question is whether we can enter Thailand by then, and under what conditions. If the airline cancels the flight, you normally just get a voucher. If people do fly to Thailand and you don't go along because of the quarantine measures, then I think you just lost your money. If this is the case, I am thinking of “just” flying to Thailand and finding out which countries do allow you without imposing any requirements. So choose another destination from Thailand at a maximum of 4 hours flying time from Thailand (except India). Keep in mind that you will not be able to take hold luggage with you due to non-labelled hold luggage. E.g. Bali, Philippines, Cambodia etc.
I think it will be a stay of execution.
It will be very difficult to save THAI. They have been struggling with problems for years and are deep in debt, the corona crisis can be the death knell now.
Maybe it's better this way, one would only use taxpayers' money and eventually sink even deeper.
Never catch a falling knife
Goodbye.
My wife has been stuck in Thailand for 3 months now. Have already had to rebook her return trip 2 times.
Received a message yesterday from the travel agency that THAI will definitely NOT fly to Brussels before August 2. From 2 August there would be 3 return flights per week. Wait…
That's right, Frank. This morning I also received the message that Thai Airways has again canceled my wife's return flight on 03/07 and a seat can only be booked again from 02/08.
She has been trapped with her family in the North for months and I fear I won't be able to hold her back until September or October.
Well, nasty situation. You could consider taking the loss and booking with an airline that does fly to Brussels or Amsterdam.
Received a message today that the booked flight Amsterdam – Copenhagen – Bangkok (first part SAS, 2nd part Thai Airways) of July 15 has been canceled by Thai Airways.
Received an email from Thai Airways today. 12-7 cancelled. According to travel agency
certainly no flights from Brussels with Thai Airways until 1-8.
I think we would be on the same plane. I wonder how it will turn out now. Voucher, Money back, or everything gone. In the latter case they will not see me again at thai airways.
If we are allowed to enter Thailand, the travel agency will provide alternative transport. Are they mandatory. That's what the travel agency said.
Perhaps a chance that we will go if we can enter.
However, they think the chances are small.
Today we received a message from Thai Airways that our flight from Frankfurt to Bangkok on July 27 has been cancelled. I wonder if we will see something in return in the form of money or a voucher.
I have booked my return flight on July 3 to Brussels and have no problem with Thai Airways
No problem? But they don't fly on July 3…..
Dear Marc,
That flight will not take place if this statement from the airline is correct.
https://www.thaiairways.com/sites/en_GB/news/news_announcement/news_detail/covid_19.page
Dear all, if any of you would like to take a closer look into the (financial) kitchen of Thai Airways International (THAI) to see how the flag actually hangs, please search the internet with the search term: Financial Statement (Full version) – THAI AIRWAYS INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC COMPANY.
The reports are fully downloadable and provide an absolutely clear insight.
THAI has been loss-making for many years and a drastic reorganization will have to take place.
Personally, I believe that it remains a 'mopping up with the tap open' (= no chance of success because one fights the symptoms without addressing the cause). In hope of victory!
It is not really about whether and how much loss-making the airline is. What matters is the political will to absorb the losses from the government budget or not. As happened with the rice subsidy and as also happens in the Netherlands with services that parliament considers vital.
Remarkably, after many years of incurring losses without any consequence (apart from warnings and change of managers) because the Thai and foreign taxpayers in Thailand cover the losses, the measure is now apparently full.
Even more remarkable is that the government is not pulling the plug on Thai Airways (which one could very easily have done as a majority shareholder) but that it is being left to the courts, but now with a minority interest. I think that indicates that the government did not dare to close the door or put Thai for sale because there are apparently two different and opposing camps. One camp wants to keep Thai Airways at all costs, the other camp wants to close or sell Thai Airwyas. If the judge now concludes that Thai is no longer viable, Prayut can wash his hands (with gel).
The question is whether the lid will really open if thousands of layoffs fall at Thai Airways, due to reorganization or bankruptcy.
.
Such a shame Thai Airways was so good just in time to hand in our points for a free flight.
I wonder if this also applies to Royal Orchid holidays, we have also experienced wonderful trips there.
Things started to go bad when they moved away from the office in Amsterdam, even via email they were no longer available. This was a few years ago and no landing rights to Amsterdam was also bad for business.
