Thai media report that 14 Thais were arrested last Tuesday when they secretly crossed the Cambodian border. They are all employees of a casino in Poi Pet and wanted to avoid ending up in a 14-day quarantine.

These casino employees said they had been in Cambodia for two months and wanted to go home to visit family.

The Sa Kaeo Provincial Court granted them a provisional release on bail of 40.000 baht each if they adhered to Covid-19 rules.

Sources said they were all connected to an influential man in the gambling world named Sia Po, who has reportedly tried to turn a blind eye to the authorities so that the workers would not be quarantined.

The casino employees have now agreed to go into quarantine.
