To emphasize the seriousness of the situation once again, the US embassy (bangkok.usembassy.gov) has issued a warning for its citizens in Bangkok.

The website of the embassy states that it is advisable to prepare for possible flooding. American citizens in Bangkok would do well to put together an emergency kit, consisting of:

  • At least a three-day supply of water for drinking and sanitation (one gallon of water per person, per day).
  • At least a three-day supply of non-perishable food (Don't forget the can opener!).
  • Infant formula and diapers.
  • Pet food and extra water for your pet.
  • Flashlight and extra batteries.
  • Candles with matches (Matches should be stored in a waterproof container.).
  • first aid kit.
  • Feminine supplies and personal hygiene items.
  • Prescription medications and glasses.
  • Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation.
  • Cell phone with chargers.
  • Important family documents such as passports.
  • Cash and credit cards.
  • Unscented household chlorine bleach (When diluted nine parts water to one part bleach, bleach can be used as a disinfectant.).
  • Paper cups, plates and plastic utensils, paper towels.
  • Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities.
  • local maps.

The embassy also advises to keep charged mobile phones at hand and to register with the embassy.
