The Thai cream of the crop

Typical broad flat nose, which you often see in Isan women

For many Thai women it comes out of their nose. What? The nose! eh? What do you mean exactly? Well, Thai women like white skin very much, but also a Western nose. A big gamble, I mean. Who can put you in other people's business.

Because many Thai don't look beyond the nose, the surgeon may be involved to make it a perky nose. Also called 'Rhinoplasty' in reasonable English. That costs Thailand not that much. So bahtjes are regularly used for a nose job.

Thai women and especially those from Isaan have a rather flat and broad nose. Nothing wrong with that in itself I think. But they themselves go for a Western copy. The nose can also be quite large. It is a status symbol in Thailand. Just like a light skin tone. In addition to the skin color obsession, there is also a nose obsession among many Thai women.

When you have skin color I can still imagine that. After all, you can make a connection between working on the land (dark complexion) and working in an office (light complexion). A world of difference in status-sensitive Thailand.

With the nose issue it is different. Those pug noses are actually cute to see. Why tinker with it? Soon we will only see Michael Jackson clones in the streets of Bangkok. Or those ladyboy-like plastic ladies. Not a nice idea in my opinion. So the noses are not pointing in the same direction. What do readers think of this nonsense?

I don't like that posturing about skin color, but like the writer of the piece I can imagine something about it.
Those little noses I can't understand that the ladies want to change. It is precisely those cute little noses that give the Asian ladies that sweet, friendly appearance.
Such a big Western bet on an Asian face disfigured I think. Even worse than an overweight Asian.
I am totally against breeding people. Breast implants, botox, nose corrections or anything that changes the appearance, it doesn't suit that person. To me, these are all errors.

Ha, I'm lucky then!! In the 11 years that I have lived here, there has only been one girl who said that she liked my nose, other than that I have not noticed that it would be a status symbol. I could of course be wrong, but now I understand better why they keep calling “handsome man” to me, but I still look around to see if they are calling out to another farang ha ha.

I liked the following part in relation to the above post:

'An die nase eines mannes…erkennt man seine johannes', our eastern neighbors say…

Now that doesn't always seem to be the case.

The nose is the most characteristic of someone's appearance.

That is where we first look and recognize…

Not the eyes, as was previously thought, but the guess. And within 1 second too, according to a study by the University of California.

Researchers used a study of eye movements to find out where our attention goes first.

This shows that not the eyes, but the nose is of the utmost importance. In the first instance we look slightly to the left of the nose, then to the top of the nose and only then to the eyes.

According to the scientists, the right side of our face expresses our mood, which creates a direct association with a person.

When I just met my love, she sometimes touched my nose to pull it off and place it with herself. Yes, she would have preferred a pointier nose. It was sometimes mentioned that she was considering surgery, but I told her that her nose was beautiful and I didn't understand why my nose would be nicer. But that if she really wanted an operation that choice was hers, but she had to be aware of the risks, that it can also go wrong and you end up with an ugly thing like Michael Jackson. Such a practice can show off with beautiful photos, but of course they do not show operations where the result is moderate to dramatic. On the internet she found some examples of failed operations that almost made her go over the neck and I never heard from her again.

When I met her I thought my love had Chinese roots, but she told me that was not the case. Here in the Netherlands too, she was regularly mistaken for a Chinese. Not only by Dutch people but also in China Town (The Hague) where staff regularly spoke Chinese to her... I would often teasingly hold out a Chinese newspaper to her "Honey here, a free newspaper to read". “Oy, I'm not Chinese!” was the response then. 555 “But why do people think that? I thought that too” I sometimes asked, to which her answer was that it was because of her small eyes. A few months ago I found out that I had the idea to have her eyes treated in Thailand. Of course that would have been entirely up to her, if she really wanted to do it then I wouldn't have stopped her. but I don't understand it.

I understand that people are insecure about their bodies or would prefer to see certain things differently. I'm not happy with everything about myself either. Some of my toes, my teeth and some other things that I think could be nicer. But people should just take me as I am. Few people have a 'perfect' appearance. You're not going to put the knife in there unless it's necessary to function somewhat normally (i.e. disabilities and serious deformities)? All that plastic… I don't understand. But all over the world it is an industry that makes good money... People, be proud of yourself, almost no one will score a 10 on appearance and the inside is much more important.

A few months ago I found out that she had the plan to

.. had the plan or idea to make her eyes look a little bigger. The insecurity about the beauty ideal of light skin, a (Western) nose with a clear back and/or larger (Western) eyes apparently runs deep. I don't think that's necessary, you are who you are. My appearance is also far from perfect but the knife or syringe in it?? I think that wanting or having to achieve that ideal of beauty is a bit more difficult for women than for men (just look around you 555).

I find it particularly unfortunate that the Thai ladies want a “more Caucasian” appearance… that is not why we come to Thailand. During my many years of stay here, I was able to convince 2 ladies to have the “plastic nose” removed… and they are now so much more beautiful and without pain…

What are we waiting for to tell the Thai they have cute noses? That's the least we can say when they talk about the farang noses. Some of us envy the exotic color of our skin. I also prefer to look like a light brown chocolate rather than a red lobster or a pale corpse… I have also told my wife many times that some Western women go to a tanning bed. And yes, my wife has also told me that she wants to have her nose 'adjusted'… I honestly told her that her nose is much nicer than mine!

the grass is always greener on the other side.

Nowadays you can watch “Live Video” on Facebook. You will come across quite a bit of “Live” plastic surgery here. These are mostly videos from Thailand or Vietnam and they all want the "western" nose look.
Also many live videos of ladies who have already grown their faces.

I don't like it but they have to know for themselves, it's their life.

My wife has a beautiful "Isaan" nose and our daughter has half an Isaan nose.
She thinks it's a little less, but she doesn't think surgery is necessary either.

Almost everyone has a body part that they find a little less.

About 25 years ago (when it was still fun) we had a very pleasant evening, then you heard a jingle bell from one bar to the other... Then we were fooling around with a few girls and then the subject came up, "nose." "Long story short, I promised 4 girls a nose. I was supposed to pick up 5 the next morning at a 7/11, but there were 4... 1 girl had arranged the appointments and off to Sri-ratcha. After 8 o'clock we were helped all 4 of them, I couldn't stop laughing. How they looked, you could see their blue eyes swelling up so much. But with all due respect, they were in the bar in the evening. Back then a nose only cost 3000 baht, would it now? I don't know I still see the girls (women now), still grateful and to be honest...it's also a better sight.
