Who has experience with a new DigiD application?

Dear readers,

Requested DigiD again via the SVB, but where is it going wrong? As you know, as of January 1, 2023 we have to log in with a DigiD App instead of a username and password. Now you can apply directly to DigiD, then you have to pick up your activation code at the NL embassy in BKK or you can request it via SVB, then your activation code will be sent to your home address.

Since I did not receive a text message on my Thai mobile, I again applied for a DigiD via SVB on September 14, 2023. The site said that I would receive my activation code after 3 days. Now we are a month later, but still have not received an activation code from DigiD.

Spoke to SVB via Whatsapp yesterday, they had forwarded my application to DigiD.

I have also sent an email to DigiD asking when my activation code has been sent. They said my Digid could activate in 45 days. My family in NL also spoke to a DigiD employee, but he has not responded.

Who has experience with a new DigiD application, do I sometimes have to wait longer for the mail to Thailand.

Incidentally, the SVB Certificate of Life every year and AOW application was neatly completed last week.

Regards,

Arnold

If you have received your counter code (e-mail or SMS) you may be able to get your activation code via video call:

Arnolds, I have the same problem, Pieter says video calling with Worldwide, but I think that is only possible with Whatsapp on the phone and I cannot activate that because you have to receive an access code by SMS and I also do not have an SMS on the Smartphoe in Thailand.

How can you have a smartphone without SMS capability? Impossible. How can people cause themselves problems and pretend that it is beyond their control. You can even text with a Dutch SIM card in your Thai smartphone. Just as good as a TH SIM card in a NL smartphone.

That is the essence of the problem. If you don't understand the technique you will get into trouble sooner or later. Unfortunately, the NL government does not take into account people who cannot keep up with this pace, such as the elderly and digital literacy.

Video calls are made via a secure internet connection via a laptop/pc. Tablet or smartphone also works, I think, but I'm not 100% sure.
You do not need WhatsApp for this.

Simply make an appointment with Dutch Worldwide and you will receive a link with instructions. You don't need a whstsapp for that

Take a Thai sim card (costs 100 baht) so that you can also receive SMS, if necessary a 2nd smartphone for 1000 baht once if your current phone has no space for a 2nd sim.
Or you change the SIM in your current phone if you expect an SMS, read the SMS code and then put the old SIM back and continue to enter the SMS code.
Thai sim puts you on 50 baht credit, making a call once every few months so that the sim remains active costs a few baht. And when the credit is used up, you can top it up anywhere.

Thai sim also works well to get cheap mobile internet. This is ideal for navigation with google maps. Cost around 300b per month.

I think that's a very good question! I think I've been working for more than a year to get that damn DigiD app activated and it just doesn't work The latest is that people have now found out that you have to be registered in the RNI register so that the government in NL knows where you are (and checks). I submitted that registration to the SVB because it is, among other things, authorized to do that registration. I then received a message from Mijnoverheid, but I can't access it because I can't activate the DigiD app! I then presented this to Worldwide and those oenen demanded that I should go from France to an RNI counter in NL! eh? I also made that clear to them a week ago but have not yet received a response.
The same problem occurs with a pension fund and there too I can no longer access the site, so I have now agreed to handle communication by letter from now on and that has been agreed. If that damned DigiD continues like this, I expect everyone to convert everything into letter mail.
And the DigiD declares, their words, that no one is obliged to apply DigiD!
If you want to switch to letter mail, I advise you to agree on a postal address with a reliable friend who will receive, scan and send the content by email. The Netherlands at its best because the government is interested in you and is developing an unusable program. They also offer to use the European Id. Have you already looked into that? Even more idiotic! Courage! And I'm sure, because it's a paid email provider, that com per my email address is better and safer than Digid!

    • Pieter says up

Registration in the RNI is not new. When you left the Netherlands, you were obliged to deregister from your municipality, stating your new address. If that address is abroad, the municipality takes care of the registration in the RNI.
Once enrolled in the RNI, you can make your changes digitally.
A DigiD is required for this. If you want it without DigiD, you must come by.
Apparently you want the Government to visit you, but that is not going to happen.

    Dear all ,

I have now received my activation code after a little over a month.
It is a 3 step verification, five digit pin code followed by 4 letter code and then OR code.
To achieve this I have used a lot of Whatsapp with the SVB, emails to info DidiD and my cousin has called several times from NL to DigiD.
With these safety steps I would like to thank DigiD.

However, it can be much simpler, application for ING app takes about 1 to 2 minutes.
You log in with your old username and password.
You will then be given the option to tick a photo of your passport.
You will be presented with an empty outlined screen that you should aim at your passport.
When the lighting is correct, the photo will be taken automatically and you will receive a Perfect notification.
You then have to enter a 2-digit pin code twice and you can go to your ING app.
    FAIRLY SIMPLE.

    Dear Arnolds, you write:
“As you know, as of January 1, 2023 we have to log in with a DigiD App instead of a username and password.”
However, I know nothing. How was I supposed to know this?

    • henryN says up

I didn't know about this either until I received an email from MijnOverheid. It stated that you have to log in with a DiGiD app from 01-01=2023. Activate it soon.

    Dear Pieter,
I suspect that you are defending the Dutch government? Do you have an interest in that? Because if you think I'm going to NL (2400 km A / R) to pick up a simple code to register with the RNI, then think that something is wrong with the Dutch government. A simple note with that code to my address would suffice and it is the safest method. By the way, I only left 22 years ago!
Then something about the DigiD app. That app is owned by Google and do you know how many trackers Google has already installed? And you're probably familiar with Google's business model: collecting personal data through every possible method and selling it to marketing departments. I do not want that! Do you want that? So the DigiD app is dangerous and easy to intercept by Google.

    • Pieter says up

I defend common sense. If that simple letter is accidentally delivered to the wrong address and you become a victim of identity fraud, you will scream bloody murder about the careless government throwing your data on the street.

The DigiD app is owned by Logius, which in turn falls under the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. Not from Google. The app is offered via the Google and the Apple store, but these companies do not receive any data from it. In fact, the app contains no data. The app only generates a code and a confirmation to log in to a secure internet environment. You exchange personal data in a secure environment. The app is not active there.

I understand that you have not been to the Netherlands in the past 22 years, so that you were not able to pass on your current address details to a designated municipality. But you won't be able to ignore it now if you still want to do digital business with the government.

You may consider the DigiD app dangerous and refuse it. But then you also choose to sever your digital ties with the government.
