Dear readers,

Where should the main occupant (Pa, Ma or partner) report if I (farang) stay there for a longer period of time? Can this be done at the town hall (Tetsabaan) or does it have to be done at immigration?

For example, I am staying with relatives in Sikhio, can they register me there or do you have to go to Nakhon Ratchasima Immigration?

Regards,

Kees

You can download a so-called TM30 form online, and hand it in to Immigration within 24 hours.
As stated on the form, in some cases, if for example the Immigration is not directly nearby, it can also be done with the Local Police.
In both cases, the owner of the property is obliged to do this within 24 hours.

I went to Kantharalak police myself with my girlfriend. But they did nothing with it and said it is not Bangkok here.

The next time we went to immigration in Sisaket, it was arranged within 30 minutes, including proof of my driver's license. Cost nil.

A week later, a check in the neighborhood at the neighbor's house was given a fine of 1000 baht for not reporting on time. I received a thank you for having reported it.

This was our experience at the Local Police Bureau as well, and we had to go to the Immigration in Chiang Rai the same day, which meant a 60km drive there and back.
Although it is clearly stated on the form that the Local Police can also perform this TM30 procedure, no one at this office had ever seen such a form, nor heard of this legislation.
However, an ordinary Thai is expected to be aware of this legislation, and will also be fined if they fail to comply.

It makes no difference. Short or long stay. With every stay of 1 night or more, an alien, speak foreigner, must be reported by the landlord / owner by means of a TM30.

Thank you for the answers. Now I raise the bar. Her mother has a diner close to the hospital, and my friend usually works and sleeps there and only goes to her own house on weekends 15 km away in a small village called amphur Sikhio. This will happen when I get back. Does she/we have to fill in 2 TM30 forms?

In theory, yes. Any address where an outside charger resides.
      So will any hotel

    • RonnyLatYa says up

      In theory yes.
If you change hotels every day, you will also be reported every day.

But you cannot fill in 2 TM30. Only the last message counts.

But in practice, 1 report to the main address is also sufficient.

TM30 this and TM30 that. Can someone on earth tell me what a TM30 form is. Been living in Thailand for 13 years now, been back to Europe a few times, had Belgian acquaintances visit me a few times for a few weeks to spend the night at my house, but outside of this blog I have never heard about TM30.

If you've never heard of it outside of this blog, just type TM30 report into Google.
      Reading enough.

Every year I go to Thailand with my Thai wife for 4 weeks and stay in my house, which is in my wife's name. We have never filled a Tm30. Why would I? We regularly stay with family during our holidays. Do we have to fill in a form every time and take the trouble to go to the emigration or police office? I wonder who's going to check on me. Anyway, I'm not going to start.

Why does your girlfriend have to fill in a tm30, she is a Thai? You don't have to do that for yourself because it's not an official address for that eatery.

    • RonnyLatYa says up

Why not ? If you can spend the night there and her mother has her official address there, her mother should report it. Whether there is a business that sells food or whatever does not make any difference.
But you shouldn't exaggerate this either, especially if you have nothing to do with immigration during your leave. Then stick to the girlfriend's address once. That will be more than enough.

As a foreigner in Phuket, I have my own apartment in my name. Do you also have to report with the immigration

The owner of the place where a foreigner is staying must do this. Hotels or guesthouses have provided TM30 forms with a list to register all foreigners. For me this happens via the internet, although I am the only one here. If you move from place to place, you have to make time every day to register for Tm30. This also existed in the past, but there was no supervision.
In principle, this can be done with the police. I tried this 5 years ago but no one had ever heard of it.
If you go abroad and want to come back, it is best to get a re-entry certificate from Immigration
