Dear readers,

How NICE that yesterday's newsletter was about traveling to Laos.

We arrive in Bangkok on April 5 and actually want to take the night train (preferably 1st class) to Nong Khai in the evening. But everywhere it says that it is useful to arrange tickets in advance, but I cannot find how to do that from the Netherlands. Do you know this?

And about the visa for Laos: I understand from your report that it is also possible with Thai money. I had read somewhere else that it had to be done with Dollars. What do you think is best?

Thanks in advance!

And... congratulations for your nice blog!! Went to Thailand last year and enjoyed it a lot!

Greetings,

jolande

THE site for everything about trains, but only if it's positive, all over the world.
Forget about 1st class: read that too in that site. Moreover, it reduces your chances of getting a place by at least 95%.
In short: online is NOT possible - it is done by contacting a Thai agency that arranges it for you against a hefty commission.

I have taken the night train to Nong Khai a number of times. I don't know what it's like for 2 travelers, but alone I had no problems buying a ticket at the station in the morning for the night train of the same day. First class with the night train is a sleeper train.

    Hi,

You can simply buy a ticket on the platform of departure. Of course you can also go to an office where you are, for example, the day before, but you will pay a little more.
And regarding Laos, I'm not sure anymore, but I think if you convert it, you are cheaper with Baht because of the exchange rate of dollars. My uncle is reading along, he probably remembers 🙂

    Lots of fun

    Yolanda

Since when are tickets sold on the platform? The ticket counters are located in the station hall.

Eum last month I traveled by train from hua hin to Bangkrut, I bought the ticket at the platform…so assuming that
My apologies if that doesn't apply to Nong khai…
