Reader question: Can I work as a football coach in Thailand?
Dear readers,
I have been a football coach (A diploma) for 25 years and have worked in many countries in Europe. Currently in Austria.
Would there be a possibility in Thailand to work there as a trainer or possibly manager of a football school?
Sincerely,
Henk
I think the same rules apply to this as to other jobs, with the understanding that as a foreigner you are more likely to get a work permit if you are a football coach than, for example, if you are a physics teacher. After all, commercial companies must demonstrate that the work that a foreigner is going to do cannot easily be done by a Thai. The big clubs in Thailand are almost all owned by wealthy Thais who run a conglomerate of companies. These wealthy Thais have so much influence that it shouldn't be that hard to get started here. The condition is that you receive a contract from a football club.
Here at Buriram United there are about six foreign trainers around, currently mostly Spaniards and English and an English manager, I think they are well paid, because the highest paid footballer here (Jay Simpson a striker from the Arsenal youth) has soon 2 million baht per month (Wikipedia), until halfway through the season the English trainer Scott Cooper walked here, they were undefeated at the top and reached the last eight of the Asia Champions League, but now the Spaniard Alejandro Menédez is the trainer, so here too they throw a trainer out very easily, because the wealthy Thai owner remains the big boss here, who always walks along in a tracksuit on the field before the game and is in charge of trainers and reserves during the game in the dugout.
Buriram United is still unbeaten at the top with three games to play and three points clear, so remember that they are no longer waiting for a foreign amateur trainer here, but for a trainer with international experience, who ran last year. here Sven Gorän Eriksson at Bec Tero Sasana Fc still around as manager.
Most clubs still have a Thai trainer, but a few clubs here already have a foreign trainer, Chiang Rai, for example, has the Dutchman Henk Wisman as a trainer, plus two Dutch football players, under contract, but unfortunately they are at the very bottom, so that is not a good example for the Dutch trainers.
Henk Wisman was fired as a trainer not so long ago because of the disappointing results……
Try to contact Vic Hermans. He is the Dutch national coach of the Thai indoor football team, here called Futsal.... You can probably reach him via the website of the Thai football association.
Well Henk, I hope it works for you. If you still need someone to set up the pawns properly, I'd like to be recommended.
Hello Henk, it is a coming and going of foreign trainers, and I have various contacts here at clubs. If you send me a CV of work experience at which clubs I might be able to help you. My email is [email protected]
