Home » Reader question » Thailand question: How does the catering check work for travelers from Thailand?
Dear readers,
My son and daughter-in-law are coming to the Netherlands this weekend, so we can finally see our granddaughter who was born in January. They have both been vaccinated twice with Sinopharm, a vaccine approved by the WHO. They have all kinds of documents and evidence of that.
However, I wonder how the catering corona check should go in the Netherlands, they don't have a corona check app and QR code. Does the hospitality industry know how to deal with proof of vaccination from travelers from outside Europe?
It would be a shame if we couldn't go out for dinner together.
I have read that you can have a QR code made in Utrecht, but it is a hassle and certainly not possible for my Thai daughter-in-law. Wondering if there are any rules for this?
Greetings,
Marjan

No, the hospitality industry only knows how to work with the QR app, precisely to prevent these kinds of problems.
I don't know how you get foreign vaccination data in the QR app either. You currently still need a BSN to get the QR app up and running.
Of course you can go to your restaurant with your vaccination proof, they have something else to do than play police and may just wave you through.
If you have been vaccinated outside the Netherlands, you must legalize it at the GGD in Utrecht.
You have to come there in person.
Please make an appointment in advance.

Thai Astra Zenica is not recognized in the Netherlands. I do not know
what is the status of Sinopharm in the Netherlands.
A tip. Anyone who is going to travel from Thailand and is vaccinated. Obtain an international vaccination passport in advance. This allows you to demonstrate your vaccination status almost anywhere.
I thought I read that Sinopharm has been approved in the Netherlands as opposed to Belgium where it is not (yet) on the list.
Now I wouldn't worry too much about that. We had a Colombian friend visit us last month and she was vaccinated with Sinovac. The one time she was asked about it, she showed her foreign certificate and it was also ok. There is much bleating and little wool. Ultimately, how does that work with all those people who have been vaccinated outside the EU?
I called the GGD in Utrecht, which arranges the conversion. I called on 26/9/21 and I was able to make an appointment the week of October 4. Couldn't for my Thai girlfriend, because she has to call herself. Really ridiculous that you have to go to Utrecht and that it takes so long. I have 2 astrazenica, 1 of which is from the Thai factory. I've asked if that lot number is a problem because it doesn't seem to be approved in Europe yet. GGD operator said that is no problem. They only look at the manufacturer and not at the lot number. I also called a restaurant and it has a policy that vaccinated people with a yellow book from the. abroad are allowed to eat in the restaurant. No app required. But that will not be the case with all restaurants. Perhaps the GOED foundation will follow suit. In principle, vaccinated people from outside the EU are not even allowed to have breakfast in their hotel restaurant. First wait a good week and go to Utrecht.
Nico,
Compare it with the Thai admission program.
The Netherlands has no COE, no quarantine obligation on arrival, no extra covid insurance required and no 14-day isolation program incl. testing. No thermometer on your head when visiting the supermarket.
Just a ride to Utrecht, which is a beautiful city for Thai visitors. That's all.
