Home » Reader question » Reader question: Parcel from the Netherlands did not arrive in Thailand
Dear readers,
I sent a package with PostNL to Thailand/Pattaya on May 1, 2020 (with track and trace). PostNL claims it was sent to Thailand on the 8th. In Thailand they say that the package is still in the Netherlands.
Does anyone have experience with this?
Regards,
Pierre
Between sent to Thailand and still in the Netherlands there are a lot of places where the package could be.
Furthermore, there may be a conceptual confusion.
If Thailand says that the package is still in the Netherlands, they could mean that it has not yet arrived in Thailand and is not their responsibility yet.
Sent to Thailand does not necessarily mean that it has been loaded on the plane.
Furthermore, there are of course not many flights at the moment, so everything will probably take longer.
You should check with Post.nl what the last known location of the package was and ask if they would like to inquire about the status of that package at the next handling location.
I assume the post has internal procedures for this.
Furthermore, it is only 19 days, my orders, which unfortunately are sent with DHL, normally take almost a month (except the last one that was returned to the sender) of which three days in Thailand and two weeks in the handling center at the airport in Germany .
And as already mentioned, few planes, so potentially very long waiting times
Pierre I don't know what the current situation is with the postal delivery in Thailand, but here in Cambodia I am told at the post office that not a single letter or package arrives from Europe. Only planes land from China.
I think the situation in Thailand is not much different than here.
I had the same thing last year, but the PTT post in the Netherlands is not really helpful.
The answer was that there are countless couriers in Thailand and that this would be impossible, they could not tell me which courier picked it up in Thailand, ridiculous of course, they send it and need to know which carrier handles this locally. Didn't get a satisfactory answer to this.
I started looking myself from the Netherlands, started at the Thailand post office and with the track and trace number they immediately knew that it was a package from the Netherlands.
They could also immediately see where the package had been "lost", this was for us at the local post office of my parents-in-law.
Afterwards, the info was indeed correct, the package turned out to be too heavy for the local post office to bring (10 kilos), so it was parked there without reporting it. Luckily everything is in place.
So you could try it yourself with the Thailand post office, the Dutch post does business with this in any case.
Succes
Your package is still at Schiphol. Post NL says they sent it but did not forward it to Thailand. I think they are waiting until there are enough mail items and that will be all. sent to Thailand. That's my experience. They like to blame another eg EMS Thailand. That could take a while with the current corona I'm afraid.
PostNL's tactics. save costs.
Normal or registered mail to Thailand takes about two to three weeks, if it was sent to Thailand on May 8, it is still "on its way", especially now in corona time it can take a little longer.
Jan
Just count on it that the package will take a few weeks. For me, a book took 7 weeks.
Enter the tracking number on ems Thailand. Then you know where the package is. If it is indeed lost, no one is responsible. Then blame Corona.
My last package in Corona time took more than 3 weeks

I think due to limited number of flights.
Hi,
I regularly send parcels to my granddaughter in Korat,
via Post NL, even without track & trace, and it always arrives,
on average it takes 10 days, it is also sometimes within one
week. I've been doing this for about 6 years this way and there's never been
something got lost.
Regards, Inge
hi pierre
I also sent a parcel to thailand and it took 31 days to arrive.
Normally 8 days so maybe wait a little longer.
Greetings Marco
Rock,
In recent years I have already received hundreds of small packages very correctly here in Thailand from China. However, the last 3 months it has been a disaster. 75% do not arrive even though the senders claim that the parcels have been delivered. Via Track and trace you can even see a signature of the recipient. Whose signature it is, cannot be traced by the local post. (Khon Kaen)
They are always things of a few THB so never a real disaster. Things I look forward to having (99% electronics components).
Think that Covid-19 unjustly puts many things in the trash upon arrival in Thailand.
Healthy greetings
Hi Pierre,
Do not panic…
I sent a package last month, where I also initially thought that something was wrong.
First it took a few days before it was processed in NL and then it got the status 'in transit'. I was surprised that this status remained unchanged for 10 days, and I was worried at first, but eventually I was notified that it had arrived in Thailand, and it was delivered the next day. All in all, it took about 17-18 days… so I think you just need to have some faith that it will work out.
Why it took so long? Perhaps also no/reduced number of cargo flights to Bangkok? Or did the package have a completely different route: via Singapore, for example? Could be an explanation for the delay…but I don't know either.
I hope your patience will be rewarded too! 😉
Many packages from the Netherlands received normally with 10 working days, went wrong 1 time.
Post NL could tell nothing more than that it was in transit. Very bad service.
From Thai post (Bangkok) I received a neat overview of all past locations in the Netherlands on my email and the package was still at the post office at Schiphol.
From China, packages now take longer than usual, which is strange because today I received an order on May 19 as an epackage (with Track and Trace) neatly received.
We had the same problem, solved as follows. She went to a post office in Thailand with the track and trace code, in our case the post office in Naklua, and they did further research. Then she was called by the post office and she was able to pick up her package a day later, despite the fact that the address was very well stated!!
Complicated, but resolved.
Thailandpost is the biggest disorganized mess in existence. In my 44 years here I've been through a lot with them. Could write a book about it, it will be a bestseller for sure.
In the time that I have lived in Thailand (8 years), nothing has ever been lost with me!
But EVERYTHING goes by registered mail in Thailand and to the Netherlands as well.
You don't want to lose important mail for those few extra cents and the official mail from the Netherlands always comes by registered mail, they also know how to do it.
And the important Thai mail that is sent to me in Thailand: registered.
This is how it should be done.
So no gossip, it works well here, Very good!!!
