Dear readers,

The grass in my garden in Thailand is more weed than grass. We plan to reseed it.

I have been scouring this blog and the internet regarding grass seed in Thailand. It's not easy to come by. We have asked around in various places and have actually come to the following conclusion: Thai grass/seed suppliers keep this business under control themselves, they mainly supply complete turf to golf courses, airports etc. but no seed.

Via Facebook there are some providers that are quite expensive compared to Dutch providers. The reliability of these providers cannot be verified either, the chance that it will never be delivered is plausible.

Now I plan to bring grass seed from the Netherlands. Are there people who have ever done this? Will the Dutch grass not break in Thailand? Do I have to buy a special type of grass in the Netherlands?

All information and tips are welcome.

Yours faithfully,

John

We have also been working on this for a long time, but it is almost impossible. An acquaintance of ours works at a grass propagation company as it is so nicely called and if they send it, a certificate from the supplier must be included and the price is no longer attractive or almost priceless .
It was also said that if you use Dutch seed, ask for "ostrich grass" because it is quite a bit stronger than play grass.
We also considered bringing it to an acquaintance because you can sow a handsome piece with a few kilos, but this was strongly discouraged because when you come to customs you can explain what a strange stuff that is and suspiciously much resembles narcotics.
But why don't you buy grass mats indeed? for 20-30 Baht per square meter you have perfect grass and grows like cabbage and after a few days a beautiful green mat.
Weeds can grow in both Dutch grass and Thai turf, but there are an arsenal of things to prevent this.
If the editors approve, this film is wonderful to watch and there you can also see where the sod manufacturers get the grass from

      Thanks for the response Hank.

There are no turf suppliers in our area.
Then we have to pick them up ourselves or have them delivered and that is not really an option for us.

That's why we had in mind to sow it again.
An additional advantage is that we don't get people over the floor and no unexpected costs are charged........

      Thanks for the link.

At practically every "garden center" there is a shop somewhere that supplies grass mats. Sometimes they only have it 1 day a week and it sells out very quickly. So if you're looking for it, I think it should work. I also put down mats myself, they are a lot thinner than in the Netherlands, but it has grown nicely.

Grass in Europe and eg Asia is very different. In general, Dutch grass seed does not grow very well in Thailand. that has to do with the soil and the climate. So I would check this out first before putting it in. Don't forget that you can't just enter that.

    Well dear sir ??
I would save myself the money, I have tried many times with Dutch grass seed.
It cost me 5 kilos of grass seed and not a blade of grass seen.
Protected my entire lawn with palm branches so that the seed did not wash away during heavy rainfall, but it was of no use.

      Thanks for the response Joe,

We plan to sow the seed under a layer of sand/compost.
      Then "roll in".
We won't need the palm branches then.
Of course the timing/rainy season is also an item.

    Dear John.
I've tried it with Dutch grass seed here in the Isaan, but had no result
Tried several times with a different primer but nothing grew.
My advice Buy grass mats in Thailand for sale in larger places. And plant at the beginning of the rainy season so now is not possible for the best results. Outside the rainy season you will have to spray a lot, but it is possible. Prices vary from 25 to 35 bath per square meter .
I wish you success with your Lawn. G.R. Peter

Grass seed brought from NL (in the suitcase) works great in Hua Hin!

Is artificial grass not an option? Or does that discolor where you stand?

I also brought 100 kg of play grass from Holland to here in the past, it doesn't grow for a meter here,
advice buy cheap mats here and you get a beautiful grass mat, have an 800 m2 grass mat yourself.

      Thanks Peter,

Plenty of seed on that website.
Now my question is of course which kind….
      So Thea succeeded.

Thea can you indicate what kind of what??

      Thank you.

        Well John,
        I don't have that knowledge.
Depends on several factors, including soil type, amount and when rainfall, wishes of the user, etc..etc…
Grass seed mixes are the best I think.
Then the species that feels good will “survive”.
This used to be called the orange band mixtures.
        Still exists I see.

    Joe ,
I have already tried everything from the Netherlands, from vegetables to nettle.
But it is too hot or too wet here.
Just buy grass mats and then those Malaysia grass mats.
They are strong and after the summer when they have dried up, the grass will return.
    Good luck.

    Hank.

Installed 300 m2 grass in the garden today. Delivered for 20 baht per m2. Beautiful grass strips of about 0,4 x 1 m. I have pain in my back from raking and lugging and the female is completely devastated from applying the sod in the squat. But the result may be there. I can send a photo but I don't know how. Klean, Rayong.

Hello Roopsoongholland where did you buy that in rayong because I also need a small 400 square meter and that price is good.

Dutch seeds (no matter what) do not grow or grow very poorly in Thailand.

We also have a lawn that was more weed than grass. Grass is one of the few plants that can survive being cut on a daily basis. Simply mowing every day will eventually turn everything into a beautiful lawn. At least that worked out well for us.
