Dear readers,

I live in Thailand, speak Thai fairly well and would like to volunteer. Is there an agency where I can register?

For the readers who are now going to shout: you are not allowed to work in Thailand, so no volunteer work either, that is not correct. The tourist police also has foreign volunteers.

Regards,

Arnold

Of course that is not correct, but for work, you also need a work permit. And not everyone gets it.
My fellow teacher (from India) who voluntarily works for the tourist police has a note in his work permit booklet that he is also allowed to work for the tourist police.

I follow…Would like to do the same, but 8 months/year, because I do not want to deregister from the Netherlands. Where do you live, Arnold?

    Sincerely,

    Rob

If you live in Phuket, plenty of options, just let us know.

You are allowed to work if you have the right papers; volunteering is also possible. Do not forget that the tourist police is GOVERNMENT and they make / have their own rules. My advice is: arrange your affairs before you start working or volunteering.

    Hi,

There is indeed a program where a Thai agent works with a farang. Farang is actually not allowed anything without him. He decides and you speak English. Works fine in Pattaya, in Hua-Hin I have the idea that the police prefer to do it themselves.

You are not actually allowed to work (start a company (preferably BOI) and hire staff and then you can) but there are organizations that are tolerated. I believe that eg. https://connect3e.wordpress.com/tag/thailand/ can help you with more info. Local Dutch associations perhaps even better (https://www.nvtbangkok.org/). Those associations have support from the embassy and you can do things with that.

Hope you can do something with this.
You can always come and do the dishes with me. 🙂

    Success!

Legally perhaps not correct, but if it is not a full day job and not daily, then there is little to worry about. Here too you have forms of tolerance, even if it is again according to the law.

Those who do good will have few problems unless you are an insufferable person.

    Arnold and others interested,
I myself have just returned to the Netherlands from three weeks of volunteer work in Khon Kaen and LomSak (an hour's drive from Phetchabun). It is a Thai/Australian organization that provides full-time care for children without a stable home situation. They have three centers; in addition to the above also at Phrae (near Chiang Mai). I have been involved with this organization for 15 years. More info on http://www.mercy-international.com or .nl.

The Good Shepherd Sisters have several centers where they work with girls and women who are victims of domestic violence or human trafficking.
For all kinds of volunteer work, the Wildflower Hoe in Chiang Mai is the most appropriate place to do volunteer work.
