Reader question: How does a visa run work?
Dear readers,
I have a reader question. Can someone explain clearly how a visa run works. I leave with a 2 x 60 day visa and want to go to Cambodia around the 60th day (to have 2 months left in Thailand) via a stay in Koh Chang.
I read that there are different reactions from people who are dropped off at the border. And sometimes paying three to four times too much.
What and how can you best work? How does it actually work at the border? And does anyone know anything about the new arrangement that a Thai visa is now also valid for Cambodia and vice versa.
Bedankt,
Ruud
I already explained how the visarun works yesterday on this blog.
I do not know from which place you want to do the visa run, I am only familiar with visa runs from Pattaya,,
The owner of the visarun company in Pattaya can give you all the information you need, and she can also arrange all visas.
1st class visa runs soi 6 Pattaya
tel 0861471618 Thai teacher is called Pa, speaks good English

The office is held in a side room of Queen Vic Inn, which is a large restaurant on Soi 6.
Good Hank. Yes from Pattaya is correct. It is also possible that I do it from Koh Chang.

Hello Ruud,
I also made this trip 2 weeks ago with a 2 x 60 day visa. From Rayong to Chanthaburi and to the border with Cambodia. You pay 30 or 35 US$ but they couldn't exchange a 100-dollar bill (!) but 1000 Baht was also good.
I had to stay in Cambodia for at least 5 days because my 2×60 days was not enough for my stay in Thailand: arrived here 20/11/12, therefore crossed the border 20/01/13, came back 26/01/13 and got my stamp valid until 26/03/12, And 25/03 I leave for Europe. Fine, but make sure you get the correct date stamp when you return. The customs officers have a stamp in their hand with those 14 days entry by arrival and that is of course of no use to you.
And in those 6 days of Cambodia I visited Angkor Wat: great experience! Good luck!
Is it true that if you are 2 days on top of the proposed term (so 2 months + 2 days), you only have to pay 2 days (so 1000 baht) when leaving Thailand?
thanks for information
2 days overstay, 1000 bath fine and an overstay stamp in your passport, you have been in the country illegally for 2 days.
At immigration you can buy 9 days extra for 1800 baht.
Hello Ruud
a visa run is nothing more and nothing less than that you "just" cross the border and re-enter Thailand.
you will be thrown to death in almost every major city with the visarun services so you don't have to worry about that
I've done a visa run myself several times
and even spent the night there once!
I would have discussed this thoroughly with them, it would have cost a bit more, but I was willing to pay for it
it is very heartbreaking there,,, so poor
but I have also heard that many auders leave their children dirty and poorly dressed so that they get "more" money from the tourists.
from koh chang you go back to Trat, mainland when you arrive from Koh Chang, in the center of Trat there are mini buses that drive to the border. You leave Thailand, cross the border, you arrive in Cambodia, pay 20 dollars at immigration and you will receive a 30-day cambodia visa. You go to the office next door and leave Cambodia, walk back to Thailand, immigration gives you the second period of 60 days. Bus to Trat, boat to Koh chang and you're done.
Okay Eddie sounds good. What border place did you have????
I have read that there are also vans from Koh Chang that will pick you up at the Hotel. Doesn't seem right to me??
We are going to Thailand for 2 months next year. Ban Amphur near Pattaya.
Then you need a visa.
What can you do better:
– apply for a visa in the Netherlands
– make an excursion to the Ankor Wat in Cambodia with an overnight stay.
Please advise on this with tips on how and what to do.
Thanks in advance!!
Very simple Tjitske. Go to the website of the Thai Embassy, it tells you exactly how to apply for a visa. Do it before you leave and everything will be in your passport. Ready.

I'd say do both! Otherwise you would also have to fly from Cambodia, because if you enter by land you get a visa exemption for only 14 days – but that has been stated here many times ……..
A Visa run is very simple.
Fly or travel by bus to Phnom penh (Cambodia)
You can buy a visa at the border (on foot) or at the airport.
In Bangkok you can also get this at the Cambodian Embassy.
Costs 1000 Thb. You can wait for it. At the airport upon arrival in Phnom Penh piece of cake cost 20$
Minimum waiting time.
here you go to a company that arranges your visa for Thailand in 3 or 4 days.
3 days is slightly faster costs 48$. (this is a 90 day visa which you have to extend after 60 days in Bangkok (for me)
After that you can just go back to Thailand.
I have done fish run to Malysia, Myamar and Vietnam.
Just very simple and if you add a trip to it, it's still fun to do.
You can easily buy all Visas in Bangkok for Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia, among others. You simply receive your visa on the same day.
I have no experience with the Netherlands yet to buy it there.
If you fly to Malysia, you do not need a visa to go there.
I arranged a visa for Thailand again in Penang. Also ready the same day.
The rules are simple and clear.
