Dear readers,

In December 2014 we want to attend the commemoration of the 2004 Tsunami disaster in Khao Lak. However, our passports are valid until the end of October 2014 and must therefore be replaced. Does anyone know how that works if we book a flight now (via Skyscanner or the like)?

Do we have to provide our passport number now? If so, then that passport number will no longer be valid in October (after all, we have a new passport).

Is it then possible to change the old passport number etc. in October without running the risk that we will be refused the flight because our details are not the same?

I eagerly await the responses,

Yours faithfully,

gash

No, you can just book, when you book a trip you will never be asked for your passport (number).

PS… It won't be easy to book a flight for December now.

Normally, a passport number is not requested. But there are exceptions. Mahan air does ask for it. But I don't assume that many Dutch people will still fly with Mahan from Düsseldorf after the closure of de Vries Reizen. Cheap by the way.

Back to the topic. The major airlines such as Eva, Emirates, Etihad, KLM, China, etc. do not ask for the passport number, but only point out in the conditions that it must be valid for at least 6 months after the planned return journey. This is usually checked at check-in as the airline is responsible and you will have to fly back if entry into the destination country is denied for this reason.

At Airasia you do not have to enter a passport number!

You often do not need this when buying a ticket. For example, Ryanair does ask for it, but those are exceptions.
You will only be asked for it when checking in online or checking in at the desk.
When obtaining a ticket at a travel agency, you will be asked for it, but this is more to check whether your passport is valid.
If you want to avoid the hassle, you can also purchase a new passport earlier. Just wait until March then the new passport will also be valid for 10 years

In my opinion, if you travel to Thailand, your passport must be valid for at least six months. Check the site of the Thai consulate in Amsterdam.

With air Asia you do not need a passport to buy the ticket. Yes, if you check in online.

Just book and apply for a new passport. That's all.

Just pay attention to the validity period of the passport 🙂 just renew it before you board the plane.

You may be asked for your passport number. I experienced this last December. My passport was replaced in November. I took my old passport with me just to be on the safe side (and therefore needed it) and then there was no problem. The old passport has been invalidated but in such a way that the number was still legible.
    Play it safe.

    Yes it is,
When booking a flight, some companies or sellers (for example Tripair via Skyscanner) ask for a passport number, cf. also Ryanair.

So the question above remains: what if you give up the number of your current passport and have another one on departure?

I don't think it matters that the passport number has changed in the meantime. After all, you may have lost your card in the meantime and have had to replace it. So it is always possible that you have a new one in the meantime.

But with Ryanair you never know. They must have a price for that…

You can just ask for your old passport back at the municipality, I always do. They cut out a corner and put a stamp on each page, no problem

Apply for a new passport only after March 9. Valid for 10 years from that date.

Why book so early? Seven weeks before the trip is more than enough, so you have more time to look at offers, from eg 333travel or bmair…..
Furthermore, your passport number is never looked at or asked, only fill it in on your arrival / departure
    form….
