I would like to warn the readers of Thailandblog that outside the three official post offices in Pattaya there are several so-called 'post offices' such as in Big C south Pattaya and on the corner of south Pattaya road and Soi 24, opposite Soi Hollywood. These non-official post offices are much more expensive, they charge a high service fee.

Asked those in big C what it costs to send a package of 20 kg to the Netherlands, cost 16,500 baht, so I didn't do it. The other costs 5,500 per 20 kg. So it says 'authorize post' on the window, so I think it will be ok. After bringing the package is weighed and turned out to be 18 kg, I got a 50 baht discount, so 5450 baht.

After a lot of hassle, which I want to save you, it turned out that 20 kg only cost 3030 baht and 18 kg only 2790 baht.

It is said that it is a service charge, ammehoela, maybe 10 percent is service, but a few thousand baht is theft.

Been everywhere, main post office in Banglamoon, police station, but everywhere is said: "well service eh".

I hope you take advantage of it.

Regards,

Koosski

PS
The official post offices are:

  • Pattaya soi 13/2
  • Jomtien soi 5
  • banglamoon

Ordinary letters or greeting cards across Europe cost barely 20 baths.
Of course in soi 13, no DHL or other expensive commercial competition!

    Never seen one not arrive.
Usually these are delivered with 1 week.

There are still 2 main post offices:

    – on Sawangfa Road (Banglamung – Naklua)
    – on the Sukhumvitroad from Chayapruek 2, turn left or from Chayapruek 1, turn right after 800 meters on the other side, so make a U-turn.

I am a regular customer at the post office in Big c south Pattaya, everything is sent correctly and quickly at normal letter post prices. (letter to the Netherlands 49 Baht) I have no experience with packages of 20 kg.

I would just go to soi 13, letter to the Netherlands 3 A4 pages 17 Bath.

        Okay thanks!
I found 49 Baht already advantageous.

I have recently been to one of the listed post offices twice and my experience in Jomtien was nothing short of bizarre. I offered 2 letters to the Netherlands at 3 baht, 24 to Bangkok at 1 baht and 5 postcards to the Netherlands at 3 baht, a total of 15 baht.
But before I could pay my passport was demanded and the girl calmly typed all my data into the computer.
    Why privacy?

I know that this is mandatory when offering a postal package, but for regular mail?

A week later I was at the post office in Pattaya soi 13/2 with a similar number of letters that were stamped and sent without presenting a passport.

Is it arbitrary or do people not understand the rules themselves?

In Jomtien there is such a barrier office in the building of the Jomtien Condotel complex, where you can also rent storage space at an exorbitant price. (Don't bump your head up there)

The post offices as reported here are run by persons who work on a self-employed basis,
They have to rent a space and as I saw near Bangkok give a better service than the official post offices like help packing and sealing with wide tape.

We have already sent a number of cards from the Banglamung office three times and they never arrived in the Netherlands. What I heard is that the unreliable Thai postal service simply peels off the stamp and reuses it. I'm starting to believe it after our experiences last year. Sent a registered mail (EMS) from Jomtien and also from Banglamung and both arrived neatly.

When we still lived in Bangkok there was also a private post office.
I didn't know at first either. was also not visible. Until I looked up prices on the internet and the lady asked why there was a price difference. Yes, then it came out that this was a private post office. You should know. You often cannot see it from the outside

It's a pity you can't post pictures here, but the Thai post or EMS is the most unreliable postal company I know. Just throw packages outside my door in a public street, content package only 20000 baht. 1 time no 3 times in 1 week. Last week I spent 2,5 hours in Banglamung post office for 2 packages of which they say the address is incorrect, of course this is correct. Unfortunately they had already sent 1 package back, the sender asked me if I was crazy considering it was the third time. Give me Kerry, DHL, Fedex
