Dear Martin,

I am 77 years old and have been taking DIOVAN 10 mg for 80 years to lower my blood pressure. Every morning I exercise 7,5 km and (already 5 years) and when I use Diovan my blood pressure is between 110/65/65 and 125/73/70. Now I have stopped taking Diovan and after my exercise the blood pressure is 137/70/63 sometimes it goes up to 147/85/66 but most of the time below 140/80/70.

My question is can I stop the Diovan given my age or do you advise to use Diovan again? However, I also test at 4/5 p.m. and then my blood pressure is high 145/86/62 – 153-75-63 even if I use Diovan, the value between 4/5 p.m. is higher than 'in the morning.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation

With kind regards,

J.

Dear J,

Your blood pressure is not that high, except according to the industry. In my opinion, you can safely omit the Diovan.

Do not measure blood pressure for two weeks and then make a series of one week. Measure in the morning and evening.

If the blood pressure is not higher than now, you can stop the Diovan permanently. Every now and then you make a series of a week.

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Maarten
