Coconut water is not only a delicious thirst quencher in Thailand, the drink also has a number of special properties. For example, coconut water is very healthy, especially because of the high amount of potassium. Do you have high blood pressure? Then coconut water itself is an excellent medicine for you.

High blood pressure is dangerous. It is not a disease, but high blood pressure does increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (for example, a stroke, kidney damage or a heart attack). Prolonged high blood pressure damages the walls of the arteries. This promotes the development of arteriosclerosis. Arteriosclerosis causes the arteries to become less elastic and blood pressure rises further.

Coconut water and potassium

The most important property of coconut water is without a doubt its high potassium content. Few natural foods contain more potassium than coconut water. Potassium is necessary for the functioning of the nerves, the contraction of the muscles and the production of proteins and glycogen, so for the energy supply to the muscles.

Potassium is also necessary to maintain normal blood pressure, in fact, a potassium-rich diet helps to lower blood pressure. Potassium also helps with the removal of waste, so eating products with a high potassium content helps with weight loss.

With a potassium deficiency, the nerves and muscles cannot function properly. This manifests itself in arrhythmias, muscle weakness, muscle weakness and slow reflexes. Fluid retention can also occur, the latter being mainly the result of too high a sodium intake and too low a potassium level in the body. A potassium deficiency can occur with a lot of perspiration, for example through intensive sports, frequent vomiting and severe diarrhoea. In these cases, drinking coconut water can be a good solution to supplement the deficiency of potassium and other electrolytes in a healthy, natural way.

Other essential minerals and vitamins

In addition to potassium, coconut water also contains magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, iron, copper, vitamins B and C and cytokinins, the latter of which is a class of hormones that counteract the aging of cells. Consuming food with cytokinins can therefore keep you young for longer. Coconut water contains no fat and no cholesterol and is extremely easy to digest. It also helps the body better absorb calcium and magnesium.

Even more special features

For example, did you know that coconut water is sterile? That means completely bacteria-free. It has the same electrolyte balance as human blood. In World War II, coconut water was used, for lack of anything better, as a blood plasma substitute by doctors stationed in the Pacific.

The coconut water from young coconuts contains a mix of sugars, vitamins, minerals and electrolytes. This makes coconut juice not only tasty but also a healthy thirst quencher. If you're walking around in the heat and humidity of the Thai climate, you need to drink a lot. Drinking coconut water also replenishes the salts (also known as electrolytes) that you lose through sweat.

In short, enjoy this special fruit that is available everywhere in Thailand and also costs almost nothing. For 40 baht or sometimes even less you can already enjoy this delicacy that is also healthy.

Does this also count for coconut water that comes in bottles or cans? See this in the supermarket … it will be another 4 months before I can drink the fresh one!

Does this also apply to the (young) flesh?

In the article it is about coconut water, you refer to info about coconut oil (coconut fat). Not to be confused with each other.

Good story, especially about blood plasma replacement possibility. Also used in Thailand in WW2. (And in NL suitable for Jehovah's Witnesses, because they, lol, refuse blood transfusions.) It is a pity and misleading that the bottles of coconut water in 7/11 and supermarkets claim all the properties mentioned, but no longer have it, due to the production process using heat, filtration and sterilization . Which are false claims. Go pure nature, suck this nectar with a straw from the cool original coconut, rightly a Super Food!
