Although KLM had previously announced that it would include Phuket in the winter timetable, the airline is now refraining from doing so.

Sicco Marsman, Vice President Network Planning, informs Luchtvaart Magazine that "the current circumstances are such that KLM has decided not to start the route".

KLM wanted to include the Phuket route as one of six new long-distance destinations for the winter season. A KLM Boeing 777-300ER would land on the Thai holiday island four times a week from the end of October, with a stop in Kuala Lumpur on the way there.

Both Kuala Lumpur and Phuket have very strict entry conditions due to the pandemic. Therefore, according to KLM, it is not interesting to continue the original plans.

    Well,

If you see how much work and especially costs you have to make to get a CoE, very few tourists will come. so I fully understand KLM.

I had heard from an internal source that Emirates rarely has more than 40 passengers per day (12 also occurs) and that with a Boeing 777. Count your loss.

Well, that fits very well. I've done 3 and am working on the 4th. If you prepare the paperwork just as well, it doesn't amount to much.

Not everyone is an IT technician. Many people do not have a printer or scanner or can barely handle it. I know several people who really don't know how to get started. Many people are on their own and are a bit older. People who really need to be in Thailand will make the necessary effort, however, the average tourist will not spend days on requesting documents, saving, printing and scanning and then seeing again that you can book a hotel and go somewhere for a PCR test . In the hope that your flight will continue, you can leave for a country where everything is locked.

For those cases, there are agents who take 100% of the work off your hands. Where there is a will there is a way.

Of course I have no idea how much demand there is for a KLM flight to Phuket, but my recent flight with SQ to Phuket was 100% full.

We go to Phuket every two years, but we can't go now because you have to meet so many conditions due to corona that it is no longer fun.
We like to fly with KLM but agree with them to postpone the flights to Phuket.
