KLM has announced that it is in line with EASA's recommendation and has formally introduced the new cockpit rule. This means that there are always two people in the cockpit, according to the airline.

A spokesperson says that the rule took effect three weeks ago. KLM follows the recommendations of EASA, the European aviation safety service. At the end of March, it issued a recommendation following the crash of the Germanwings aircraft, where the copilot closed the captain outside the cockpit and allowed the aircraft to crash.

KLM says: “The safety of our passengers and crew members always comes first and KLM does not make any concessions to flight safety. All KLM pilots are selected according to strict selection requirements and trained according to standards that apply to all airlines worldwide, including mental and physical screenings. During regular checks and recurrent training on board and in the simulator, KLM pilots are continuously tested on their skills to guarantee maximum flight safety. In addition, KLM pilots follow high-quality communication and behavioral training fully applied to their position.”
