Soon it will be time again to extend the Non-immigration (retirement) visa to be allowed to live in Thailand for another year. It was not entirely clear to me how to proceed with regard to obtaining the income statement, because from 22 May 2017 the procedure for applying for an income statement changed.

In the new situation, the signature under an income statement drawn up by yourself will no longer be legalized, but the Dutch embassy will issue a so-called 'visa support letter for applying for a residence permit from the Thai authorities'.

To be on the safe side, download and complete the application form for the letter of support, make a copy of the passport and attach the supporting documents of the pension overview. In addition, it was requested to send 2000 Baht with the application with a self-addressed reply envelope (stamped!). This was sent by registered mail to the embassy in Bangkok. A processing time and return would take 10 days. To my relief the mail came back within 8 days and to my surprise 150 Baht change was also included. An excellent service.

However, it now seems that it is not necessary to write to or visit the embassy for the follow-up applications. For people who have previously used the Austrian Consul General in Pattaya, this is entitled to issue such a statement on the basis of the same documentation until further notice. The Austrian Consul General's office is in the Thai Garden Resort on North Pattaya Road. Cost 40 Euro, currently 1480 Baht.)

When you go for the first time applies for a so-called 'annual visa', then the visa support letter from the Dutch embassy is required.

Yes those 10 days is probably when it is very busy or when there are public holidays. I received the statement from the consulate after 4 days. All enclosed evidence neatly returned. In short, no problem at all.

The question still remains with me whether the “visa support letter” is in Dutch or in English.
    Can someone clarify this now?

I can confirm that the letter is in English :
Quote: the Ambassador of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangkok herewith confirms that: (then follows your name, date of birth, place of birth, passport no, valid until and Nationality) has declared to have residence at ,then follows address and place where you live, and to receive a monthly income at , (then follows amount in Euro) as has been documented by him through (electronic) banking statements / official pension statements from the Netherlands.
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands would be grateful for any assistance you can provide to ( your name will follow) in order to obtain his visa / residence permit.

      signed for the Ambassador

ridiculous for words at first it costs € 25,60 or 1300 bath in an envelope now it suddenly costs € 50,00 or 2000 b in an envelope. I sent it back in March and got it back within 5 days and it cost me 970 baht now I read it costs 1850 baht which is almost double that. It's nice that it will still be possible with the post, it will save many a distant ries after BKK.

The question remains if you have deregistered from the Netherlands and you therefore receive your gross income, whether the form is correct, because it says: "Net income"…..

    • HarryN says up

It doesn't seem that difficult to me: Annual overview of SVB and/or ABP and/or company pension clearly indicate how much net you have received per year. If you are exempt from your company pension, there is no income tax on your annual overview, so that is gross/ net income.

I assume you have received a visa support letter from the Embassy.
Do they take all the details from the application support letter and is it in English
Would you like to show an example of the letter with which you have to go to Thai Immigration

It's all not clear to me
I go to the Embassy with the completed application, visa support letter and my income data and a copy of my passport and now:
What exactly does the Embassy do, apart from checking your income
So you get a new statement, I assume in English again with all your details etc
With this you go to the Thai Immigration
What does that letter look like and what does it say
    Does anyone have an example.

    Dear Louis,

You write “For the people who have already used the Austrian Consul General in Pattaya, this is until further notice authorized to issue such a statement on the basis of the same documentation” …..”When you receive a so-called. applies for an 'annual visa', then the visa support letter from the Dutch embassy is required.”

I would like to know who told you this or where it is, because I have my doubts about that and maybe you can clear them up a bit.

There are three possibilities of where this could come from:

    1. Immigration itself
Then of course this is so.
Then for everyone who uses an “Income Statement”, not just Dutch people.
Any nationality that uses an 'Income statement' for its annual extension will then have to go to its own embassy the first time, including Belgians.
I think these rules would have been in effect for a long time.

    2. The Austrian Consul
It is possible that they have decided that there and that they only now issue “Income statements” if it concerns follow-up applications. Can they easily check your passport.
Then that should also apply to everyone, because there are more nationalities that use the Austrian Consul for their “Income statement”. That is not something that is reserved for the Dutch.
But it is the Austrian Consul who decides whether he wants to draw up an “Income statement” for non-Austrians or not, even the first time, and it is mainly immigration who decides whether they want to accept it or not.

    3. The Dutch Embassy
That is of course possible, but the embassy does not have to decide on this itself.
    Only immigration decides on this.
It's what immigration wants to accept. not what an embassy decides they can accept on an initial application, or on subsequent applications for a year extension.
The embassy also does not have to decide whether the Austrian Consul is entitled to this or not.
Only immigration decides whether to accept that “Income Statement from the Austrian Consul or not.
If immigration decides that they accept the “Income Statement” of the Austrian Consul, even the first time, an embassy has no other choice.
Immigration is solely the competence of the country where the immigration takes place, not that of an embassy, and only immigration decides from whom and what documents they accept for a year extension.

So I would like to know who told you this or where it is.

Has NL consulted with Thai Immigration about the introduction of the letter of support?
I don't hear from the Embassy about that.

  10. Van Dijk says up

Problem with benefits received from eg Belgium, the embassy provides for this
No statements before, so called the Belgian embassy for that small interest
Whether they want to issue a Statement of Income for their part, and now comes the pitfall,
No sir, we only issue statements for the Belgians who are registered here,
What now the Ned does not want to add it to your statement, and Belgians do it too, what is the solution here.

    • RonnyLatPhrao says up

      I assume you are Dutch.

For Belgians it is (or was) until a few months ago that you could easily get an income statement (afidavit) at the embassy without being registered there.

The only difference was that someone who was registered could apply by mail and someone who was not registered had to come and submit the application in person.

For a residence permit in another country, including Thailand, the Thai authorities have tightened the requirements from 22 May 2017/2560. It must be demonstrated what nationality the applicant has and what the monthly income is.
The first time this is legalized via a support letter from the Dutch embassy and taken to Immigration by the person concerned. In subsequent years, this may be arranged by the Austrian Consul in Pattaya, Naklua Road, until further notice.

This changes the procedure for applying for an income statement, in which a signature was legalized by means of a personal income statement.

How this is arranged for other foreign expats is unknown to me.

    • RonnyLatPhrao says up

Yes, but where does that say because this sentence makes no sense.

“For a residence permit in another country, including Thailand, the Thai authorities have tightened the requirements from May 22, 2017/2560.”

Remember that the passport already sufficiently shows what the nationality of the applicant is.

      • RonnyLatPhrao says up

I have gone through the frequently asked questions.

        What I read is
“The measures have been taken by the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok on instructions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided on a worldwide uniform method of issuing a visa support letter.”

I read nowhere that the reason is the stricter requirements of the Thai authorities ..

As for the date of May 22, 2017.
“It says “Income Statement changes to Visa Support Letter as of May 22, 2017”.
Nowhere do I see that this is a result of stricter requirements from the Thai authorities on that date. Seems normal to me, because it is something that will be introduced worldwide on that date by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague in order to obtain a uniform method of issue.

Anyway, maybe Immigration will come up with an “Announcement” about this, or did I miss that “Announcement”.
For now, I think just mine.
