The global development with regard to the COVID-19 virus has far-reaching consequences for the services provided by Dutch embassies worldwide, including external service providers such as the visa agencies.

This means that until at least April 6, 2020, passport applications, visa applications for short and long stays (authorisation for temporary stay, mvv) will not be accepted via embassies and visa offices.

Other services, such as DNA tests, identity testing, legalization of documents and 'basic civic integration exam abroad', will not take place during that period.

In the Q&As you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Do I need a Dutch travel document?

Only in an absolute emergency: your travel document has expired and you must travel immediately for medical or humanitarian reasons, you can still travel immediately - demonstrably with ticket, airline is flying - only then can you make an appointment with the embassy by telephone. You can also make an appointment if you can demonstrate that you urgently need a new passport in order to extend your legal stay in the country of application.

Can I still apply for a Dutch Identity Card (NIK)?

No, this is not possible at the moment. Only if you reside within the EU and do not have any other valid proof of identity and you can prove that you have to and can travel immediately for medical or humanitarian reasons – demonstrably with ticket, airline flies! – then you can make an appointment with the embassy by telephone.

With the measures to prevent Corona contamination, do I still have to visit the embassy in person?

Yes, there is no deviation from the appearance obligation.

My passport has been stolen, can I still apply for a Laissez Passer at an embassy?

Only in an emergency, if you have to travel immediately and you can prove this with a valid ticket, only then can you make an appointment at the embassy.

I need a passport, but cannot travel to the embassy for medical reasons. Can the embassy employee come by with the mobile fingerprint system?

No, the MVA is not currently being used.

Is the Passport Desk of the Municipality of Haarlemmermeer currently open to non-resident Dutch citizens?

No, the counter is in principle closed.

I am a non-resident Dutch citizen and currently reside in the Netherlands. I am in an emergency situation and I need a travel document immediately. Can I still apply for a passport at the passport desk at Schiphol?

If you can demonstrate that you must and can travel immediately (do you have a valid ticket, does the airline fly?) and that you therefore need a new passport immediately, you can call 0900 – 1852 (municipality of Haarlemmermeer) or if you cannot call a 0900 number: 0031 247 247 247.

I have received a message that my new identity card/passport is ready and must be collected within three months. The document cannot be sent and I cannot collect it within three months now. What should I do?

Under the current circumstances, we will keep the passport for you for longer. You can pick up your passport as soon as the counter opens again. Please keep an eye on the website.

I want to apply for a Dutch passport now, otherwise I will lose my Dutch citizenship?

You can only apply for a certificate of possession of Dutch nationality (VON) that interrupts the loss period of 10 years.

I assume that the income statement will still be issued via the postal procedure. If that were not the case, people would definitely get into trouble.
